HistoryThe history of Yucatan proper starts from the Spanish conquest

inthe first half of the sixteenthcentury. Before that, the territorynowcalled Yucatan Peninsula, wasa territorial stronghold in whichtheydeveloped, probably more than amillennium, the people and the Mayan

culture and was called by the Maya themselves, the Mayab.

The word Mayab, ma'ya'ab, means few, not many, the place wherelittle people or chosen people.

Prior to that, the timeline, in any portion of the same territorialspace, therewere settlements whose origin hasnot been scientificallyconfirmed andlikely date from thelate Pleistocene or Ice Age (forabout 10,000 to 12,000 years), as itappears from the findingsin thecaves and caverns Loltn Tulum (Women of the Palmsand Hol ChanYoung).

In the distant past, 65 million years ago in the late Cretaceous, innorthern peninsular region, dropped a meteorite or a fraction of it,producing a global catastrophe by killing off the dinosaurs from theface of the earth and cause the so-called Chicxulub Crater.
