Purpose of the core standards program
• Development and maintenance of minimum standards.
• To support the induction and supervision processes.
• To maintain current staff skill and ongoing learning.
• To assist in sector capacity building.

• A core standard is the demonstration of the
recommended knowledge needed to work with
people with disability.
• The core standards are designed to underpin
what is needed by practitioners in their everyday
person centred work.
• They do not replace traditional professional
training and are not meant to imply the
boundaries of professional knowledge.

Background
• Community Access practice packages.
• New core standards program replaces these practice packages over time.
• Psychology core standards were developed by the practice leader, psychology with input from seniors within ADHC.
• The behaviour support core standard is part of the Practice Improvement Framework which as been developed collaboratively by government and non-government representatives.

1. Complete the knowledge translation aspect – e learning, your own research or reading on the core standard.
2. Complete the appraisal with your work practice support person / supervisor. This will take the form of discussion questions and answers as well as demonstrated practical application in clinical cases.
3. Once signed off, the appraisal is sent to CIG for certification.
4. Obtain certificate from CIG.

(CPD) Registration Standard
• Allied Health Practitioners Regulation Agency
(AHPRA) requirement for Psychologists
• Minimum of 30 hours of CPD per year
• Need to complete a learning plan, a log of
hours and a reflection journal
