The basic concept of the company "Russkijholod" (Russian cold) was to produce icecream from natural, traditional Russian rawmaterials. In the 1990's mainly non-Russianproducts dominated the market. This led to thedecision - after a thorough market analysis in1999 - to found a local company for producingand selling ice cream.

In the storage rooms, special slimline unit coolers are used.

A lot of Russian companies followed the ex-ample of Western European companies of pro-ducing ice cream with artificial ingredients,even though high-quality ice cream has alwaysbeen very much appreciated in Russia. Fromthe very beginning, Russkij holod, however, fo-cussed on using natural and high-quality ingre-dients for the production. This approach is al-so reflected in its choice of refrigerating equip-ment.

The manufacturing plant started operating inspring 2006 and has a production capacity of4,000 t/month. More than 150 different kindsof ice cream are produced and sold not only inRussia, but also in the EC, Israel and the USA.Approx. 90 % of the overall production is di-rectly delivered to the stores.

Blast freezers in the lines for ice cream hardening

Russkij holod is very demanding when it comesto its products and this applies also to theplant's technical equipment. Great importancewas attached to equipping the manufacturingplant with state-of-the-art units. For the refrig-eration and cooling equipment, high-quality

Güntner products were selected. The loadingramps are equipped with dual discharge unitcoolers of the series DHN to ensure a constanttemperature of +2 °C.

For the two lines for ice cream hardening, spe-cial units of the blast freezer series GFN with anoverall capacity of 290 kW were provided. Foran optimum room utilisation, the cold stores(-18 °C for fruit ice cream, -21 °C for dairyice cream) were equipped with special slimlineunit coolers.

The plant is located in an industrial zone, inconsequence no special noise reduction regu-lations had to be observed for the installationof the condensers and drycoolers. The heat ex-changers including the receivers were installedon the roof and beside the factory building andensure reliable cooling. Thus it is guaranteedthat the high quality of the delicious ice creamis preserved until it reaches the customer.

Delicious ice cream is very popular.

Components for different cooling applicationswere required for the manufacturing plant: Forthe loading ramps, dual discharge unit coolersof the series DHN were implemented. In thetwo lines for ice cream hardening, special units

of the blast freezer series GFN were installed,and for an optimum room utilisation, the coldstores (-18 °C for fruit ice cream, -21 °C fordairy ice cream) were equipped with specialslimline unit coolers of the series GHN.
