Take one Maloff Protect tablet daily:1 to 2 days before travelling, throughout your trip, and 7 days after your return to malaria-free area

At the same time each day

With food or a milky drink to help absorption

Don’t crush the tablet. It will work best if it reaches your stomach whole

If you vomit within one hour of taking Maloff Protect, take another tablet straight away

• Like all medicines, Maloff Protect can cause side effects in some people

• Always refer to the patient information leaflet in the pack

• The most commonly reported are headache, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea

• Stop taking Maloff Protect and contact a doctor if you experience a severe allergic or severe skin reaction. These have occurred in a small number of people but their exact frequency is unknown

Signs of severe allergic reactions include rash and itching, sudden wheezing, tightness of the chest or throat, difficulty breathing, swollen eyelids, face, lips, tongue or other part of the body.

Signs of severe skin reactions include skin rash, which may blister or looks like small targets (a condition called erythema multiforme looks like a central dark spot surrounded by paler area with a dark ring around the edge), severe widespread rash with blisters and peeling skin, particularly occurring around the mouth, nose, eyes and genitals (signs of Stevens-Johnson syndrome).

You should also report them directly via the Yellow Card Scheme at www.mhra.gov.uk/yellowcard. By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.

You should tell a doctor or pharmacist if you experience any side effects while taking Maloff Protect.

What to do if you experience side effects

It is still possible to get malaria after taking the necessary precautions. Some types of malaria take a long time to cause symptoms, so you may not feel ill until several months after you return home

What to do if you think you have malaria

See a doctor immediately if you get symptoms you think might have malaria

Symptoms could include:• high temperature (fever)• headache

• tiredness• sweats and chills

• vomiting

Protect yourself while abroad and have a great trip!Maloff Protect (250 mg atovaquone/100 mg proguanil hydrochloride; P; licence number) is indicated for the prevention of malaria in adults aged 18 or over.
