La RegioneTra i segni della StoriaUn soggiorno nel Mendrisiotto e Basso Ceresio diventa subito un viaggio romantico e spettacolare immerso in un paesaggio dalla bellezza struggente, non più al-pino ma non ancora toscano, alla scoperta del Ticino delle radici.Paese per paese, tra montagne, colline e lago la regione più meri-dionale della Svizzera è una terra ospitale e tutta da scoprire: dalla serenità del lago ai dolci declivi collinari punteggiati di ulivi, dalle pianure industriose ai filari di vi-gneti. Terra ricca di contrasti, il Men-drisiotto offre momenti unici in qualsiasi stagione: in primave-ra quando la verde serenità dei prati della Valle di Muggio si tinge del bianco dei narcisi; d’estate quando l’unico refrigerio è sotto le pergole di osterie e grotti o in riva al lago; d’autunno quando il paesaggio si tinge di colori cal-di e Mendrisio accoglie sagre dell’uva e fiere del bestiame; e in inverno, spesso molto mite, quando dalle vette dei Monti Ge-neroso e San Giorgio si scopre l’infinito: il panorama mozzafiato delle Alpi innevate e della Pianura Padana, giù fino a Milano e agli Appennini. L’imponente mole del Monte San Giorgio, decretato dall’UNESCO nel 2003 Patrimonio Mondiale Naturale dell’Umanità per l’importanza dei suoi ritrovamenti paleontologici, ri-corda una gigantesca piramide.Un’altra zona interessante dal punto di vista naturalistico è il Parco delle Gole della Breggia, un’area com-prendente la parte inferiore della Val-le di Muggio. L’attività erosiva delle acque ha esposto un profilo geolo-gico di importanza internazionale.L’altra montagna regina del Mendri-siotto è il Monte Generoso, lanciato turisticamente già nel 1867. La vetta (1704 m s/m) è raggiungibile da Ca-polago con un treno a cremagliera.Montagna di origine marina, offre interessanti curiosità geologiche fra cui particolari grotte e gallerie, e nu-merosi fossili. Il substrato calcareo del Monte ha inoltre favorito lo svi-luppo di oltre 800 specie vegetali, fra cui alcune molto rare e uniche. Tutta la regione offre escursioni idea-li per osservare la natura e le opere dell’uomo. E ovunque la vista spazia sui tetti di coppi, sui filari dei vigneti, sugli uliveti e i cipressi, sui fitti boschi di castagni e di faggi: con il suo verde brillante e intenso in estate e i suoi colori accesi in autunno, qui la natura è ovunque.

Der Monte San Giorgio, der auf-grund der bedeutenden paläon-tologischen Funde 2003 von der UNESCO in das Weltnaturerbe aufgenommen wurde, erinnert mit seiner imposanten Grösse an eine riesige Pyramide. Eine weitere Gegend, die aus natur-wissenschaftlicher Sicht sehr inter-essant ist, ist der Park der Breggia-Schluchten. Der Park erstreckt sich im unteren Teil des Valle di Muggio. Die Erosion durch das Wasser hat ein geologisches Profil von interna-tionaler Bedeutung freigelegt. Die andere Königin der Berge im Mendrisiotto ist der Monte Genero-so, dessen touristischen Wert be-reits 1867 erkannt wurde. Die Spitze (1704 m.ü.M) ist mit einer Zahnrad-bahn von Capolago erreichbar. Die-ser Berg mit Meeresursprung bietet interessante geologische Merkwür-digkeiten, darunter aussergewöhn-liche Höhlen und unterirdische Gän-ge sowie zahlreiche Fossilien. Der kalkreiche Untergrund hat zur Ent-wicklung von über 800 Pflanzensor-ten beigetragen. Davon sind einige sehr selten und sogar einzigartig. Die ganze Region bietet ideale Aus-flüge, um die Natur und die Werke der Menschen zu bewundern. Und überall schweift der Blick auf die Pfannendächer, auf die Weinfelder, auf die Olivenhaine und die Zypres-sen, auf die dichten Kastanien- und Buchenwälder. Die Natur ist in dieser Region überall mit ihren leuchtenden und intensi-ven grünen Tönen im Sommer und den warmen Farben im Herbst.

Nommé par l’UNESCO Site du Pa-trimoine Naturel Mondial en 2003 en raison de ses fossiles paléontologi-ques, le Monte San Giorgio rappelle par sa forme une gigantesque py-ramide. Tout aussi intéressant sur le plan naturaliste est le Parco delle Gole della Breggia, qui comprend la partie inférieure de la Valle di Mug-gio. L’érosion des eaux a sculpté un profil géologique connu dans le monde entier. L’autre montagne souveraine du Mendrisiotto est le Monte Generoso, qui depuis 1867 est un haut lieu touristique; la cime, qui culmine à 1704 m d’altitude, peut être atteinte de Capolago par un train à crémaillère. D’origine ma-rine, cette montagne offre d’intéres-santes curiosités géologiques, dont des grottes et des galeries insolites, ainsi que de nombreux fossiles. Le substrat calcaire du Monte Gene-roso a par ailleurs favorisé le déve-loppement de plus de 800 espèces végétales, dont certaines sont très rares, voire uniques. Toute la ré-gion permet des excursions idéales pour observer la nature et l’œuvre humaine. Et, partout, la vue s’étend sur les toits de tuiles rouges, sur les ceps de vigne, sur les oliviers et les cyprès, sur les bois de châtaigniers et de hêtres: ici la nature resplendit partout, d’un vert intense en été, et de ses couleurs vives en automne.

The imposing size of Monte San Giorgio, inserted on the UNESCO Natural World Heritage List in 2003 due to the importance of its palae-ontological findings, reminds us of a great pyramid. Another interest-ing area from the naturalistic point of view is the Parco delle Gole della Breggia, including the lower part of the Valle di Muggio. The erosive activity of the waters has exposed a geological profile of international importance. The other mountain which is queen of the Mendrisiotto is Monte Generoso, launched as a tourist attraction as early as 1867.The peak (1704 m asl) can be rea-ched from Capolago by rack railway. The mountain is of marine origin and offers interesting geological curiosi-ties including particular caves and tunnels, and numerous fossils.Moreover the chalky substratum of the mountain has encouraged the growth of over 800 vegetable spe-cies, some of which are very rare and unique. All the region offers outings ideal for nature observation and to see the works of man.And everywhere the view moves over tiled roofs, rows of vines, olive groves and cypresses, over thick chestnut and beech woods; with its bright, intense green in summer and its vivid colours in autumn nature is everywhere here.

Il Mendrisiotto, piccolo territorio fra i Laghi di Como e di Lugano, si la-scia scoprire soprattutto a piedi o in bicicletta lungo numerosi sentieri tematici che sono il riflesso delle sue peculiarità naturalistiche e culturali, ma non solo! In vetta al Monte Gene-roso alcuni conducono alla scoper-ta dei pianeti, altri alle caratteristiche naturalistiche e geologiche della montagna. Particolari e stuzzicanti sono le proposte in Valle di Muggio, progettate dal Museo Etnografico per ridare il giusto valore a Bolle, Ne-vère e Carbonaie, e alle tradizioni.Un tuffo in tempi geologicamente molto lontani si può fare invece sul Monte San Giorgio e nelle Gole della Breggia seguendo appositi sentieri didattici. Nella Regione si registra la più alta densità di vigneti e di produ-zione d’uve del Ticino. Logico quindi trovare sentieri legati all’attività viti-vinicola locale. Numerose sono pure le tappe del Sentiero Smeraldo, rea-lizzato in collaborazione con il WWF: un progetto a livello europeo che si prefigge di conservare habitat natu-rali e specie animali minacciati. Fra le proposte naturalistiche, numerose sono pure adatte alle persone con andicap: tutte offrono occasioni di scoperte eno-gastronomico, svago culturale e panorami mozzafiato.

Der Mendrisiotto, ein kleiner Land-strich zwischen dem Lago di Como und dem Lago di Lugano, entdeckt man am besten zu Fuss oder mit dem Fahrrad auf einem der zahlrei-chen Themenwege, welche unter anderem die natürlichen und kultu-rellen Besonderheiten dieser Region widerspiegeln. Auf der Bergspitze des Monte Generoso führen einige Pfade zur Entdeckung der Planeten, andere zu den natürlichen und ge-ologischen Eigenschaften des Ber-ges. Das Valle di Muggio verfügt über ausserordentliche und reizvolle An-gebote, die vom Ethnographischen Museum ausgearbeitet wurden, um den künstlich angelegten Weihern, den Schneekellern, den Köhlereien und den Traditionen den angemes-senen Wert zurück zu geben. Verschiedene Lehrpfade auf dem Monte San Giorgio und im Parco delle Gole della Breggia laden zu einem Sprung in eine aus geologi-scher Sicht ferne Zeit ein. In dieser Region verzeichnet man die höchs-te Dichte an Weinfeldern und Wein-baubetrieben im Kanton Tessin.Selbstverständlich findet man auch Themenpfade, die sich mit dem lokalen Weinbau und mit der Wein-erzeugung befassen. Auch gibt es zahlreiche Etappen des Smarag-denweges, der in Zusammenarbeit mit dem WWF realisiert wurde. Es handelt sich um ein europaweites Projekt, welches sich das Ziel ge-setzt hat, natürliche Lebensräume und bedrohte Tierarten zu schützen. Viele der angebotenen Möglichkei-ten eignen sich auch für Menschen mit Behinderungen und alle The-menwege bieten kulinarische Über-raschungen, kulturelle Unterhaltung und atemberaubende Aussichten.

Le Mendrisiotto, petit territoire entre les lacs de Como et de Lugano, se laisse découvrir surtout à pied ou en vélo, le long de nombreux sentiers thématiques qui reflètent son ca-chet naturel et culturel. Mais il y a plus: sur le Monte Gene-roso, il y a des chemins qui condui-sent à la découverte des planètes, et d’autres qui permettent de goûter aux aspects naturalistes et géologi-que de la montagne. Les propo-sitions de la Valle di Muggio sont particulières et stimulantes, proje-tées par le Musée Ethnographique pour redonner leur juste valeur aux zones marécageuses, glacières et charbonnières, et aux traditions. On peut également remonter très loin le temps géologique sur le Monte San Giorgio et dans les Gole della Breg-gia en suivant des sentiers didacti-ques. Cette région vante par ailleurs la plus haute densité de vignobles et de production de raisin du Tes-sin; il va donc de soi que les sentiers liés à l’activité vitivinicole locale ne manquent pas. Le «Sentier Émerau-de», réalisé en collaboration avec le WWF, un projet au niveau européen destiné à conserver l’habitat naturel et les espèces animales menacées, abonde d’étapes intéressantes. Si ces activités dans la nature sont nombreuses à être accessibles aux handicapés, toutes sont autant d’occasions de découvertes oeno-gastronomiques, de divertissement culturel et de panoramas à couper le souffle.

The Mendrisiotto, a small area between the lakes of Como and Lugano, can be discovered on foot or by bike, along several thematic trails which are the reflection of its naturalistic and cultural features, but not only! At the peak of Monte Generoso some lead you on the discovery of the planets, others of the mountain’s naturalistic and geological charac-teristics. The proposals in the Valle di Muggio are special and stimulat-ing, drawn up by the Ethnographic Museum to give back their true value to wet-lands, ice-pits and charcoal burning piles and to traditions. On the other hand a dive back into re-mote geological times can be made on Monte San Giorgio and in the Gole della Breggia following special didactic trails. In this area there is the highest density of vineyards and grape production in Canton Ticino. Therefore it is logical to find trails linked to the local vine-growing and wine producing activities. There are also many stages of the Emerald Trails, realised in collab-oration with the WWF; a project at european level whose objective is to conserve natural habitats and ani-mal species in danger of extinction. Among the naturalistic proposals there are many which are also suit-able for the disabled; and they all of-fer the chance to discover the local wine and food, cultural entertain-ment and breathtaking panoramas.

Il Mendrisiotto è stata una terra con-tadina nella quale sono nati artisti ce-lebri in tutta Europa e dove all’inizio del ‘900 giovani artisti germanofoni trovarono un paesaggio naturale e umano dalle tinte forti e vibranti. Il Mendrisiotto per loro fu un’inesau-ribile fonte di ispirazione incontami-nata e di stimoli per l’arte.Terra di confine aperta alle genti, non mostra i suoi tesori in modo imme-diato. Rare sono le regioni europee che in pochi km possono offrire un territorio tanto ricco di testimonian-ze artistiche. Patria di pittori, sculto-ri, architetti, scrittori assai rinomati: da Francesco Borromini, Carlo Fontana e Carlo Maderno ai Mae-stri campionesi fino a Mario Botta; da Vincenzo Vela a Paolo Bellini; da Francesco Chiesa e Alberto Nessi fino ai creativi contemporanei che rendono molto interessante la vita artistica di una regione per tradizio-ne ponte culturale fra i poli artistici di Milano, Zurigo e Basilea. Chi ama camminare trova in quasi tutte le località chiese e musei, pre-ziosi scrigni da gustare con rispetto e tranquillità, e in Valle di Muggio un eccezionale Museo nel territorio. Ma i paesaggi bucolici non devono far dimenticare che questa è una regio-ne moderna e dinamica, un impor-tante luogo di cultura cosmopolita e umanista grazie all’Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio. Al visitatore attento si offre pure semplicità e arte popolare nelle cap-pelle, nelle nevère, nelle botteghe dei vasai, nelle fornaci, nelle fonderie artistiche. Assieme fanno di questa terra un vero luogo di cultura.

Die Region Mendrisiotto war früher eine ländliche Gegend, in der euro-paweit bekannte Künstler geboren sind, und in der junge deutschspra-chige Künstler Anfang des 20. Jahr-hunderts eine Landschaft von Natur und Menschen mit starken, vollen Farbtönen vorfanden. Das Mendri-siotto war für sie eine unerschöpf-liche und unverfälschte Quelle der Inspiration, die ihnen Anreize für ihre Kunst gab. Diese Grenzregion, die offen für Menschen ist, gibt ihre Schätze nicht auf den ersten Blick preis. In Europa gibt es kaum andere Re-gionen, die innerhalb von weni-gen Quadratkilometern einen sol-chen Reichtum an künstlerischen Zeugnissen bieten können. Sie ist die Heimat sehr berühmter Maler, Bildhauer, Architekten und Schrift-steller: von Francesco Borromini, Carlo Fontana und Carlo Maderno über die Maestri Campionesi bis hin zu Mario Botta; von Vincenzo Vela bis zu Paolo Bellini; von Francesco Chiesa und Alberto Nessi bis hin zu den zeitgenössischen Künstlern, die mit ihrer Kreativität in einer Region, die traditionell eine kulturelle Brücke zwischen den bedeutenden Kunst-zentren von Mailand, Zürich und Ba-sel schlägt, das künstlerische Leben dort sehr interessant machen. Wer gerne wandert, wird in fast allen Ortschaften Kirchen und Museen sowie ein ausserordentliches eth-nographisches Museum im Valle di Muggio vorfinden. Wertvolle Schät-ze, die achtungsvoll und in aller Ru-he genossen werden können. Die bukolischen Landschaften dür-fen jedoch nicht vergessen lassen, dass dieser Landstrich äußerst mo-dern und dynamisch ist und ein be-deutendes Zentrum der kosmopoli-tischen und humanistischen Kultur darstellt, was der Architekturakade-mie in Mendrisio zu verdanken ist. Dem aufmerksamen Besucher bietet die Region auch eine große Schlicht-heit und Volkskunst, die wir in den Kapellen, in den Schneekellern, den Töpfergeschäften, Brennereien und handwerklichen Gießereien wieder-finden. Sie alle zusammen machen aus dieser Region ein wahres Zen-trum der Kultur.

Le Mendrisiotto est une terre rurale qui a vue naître des artistes célèbres dans toute l’Europe, et où de jeunes artistes germanophones trouvèrent, au début du XXe siècle, un paysage naturel et humain aux couleurs for-tes et vibrantes. Pour eux, la Région fut source intarissable d’inspiration pure qui sut stimuler leur art. Or, si cette terre de frontière ouverte aux peuples n’exhibe pas immé-diatement ses trésors, bien peu de régions d’Europe peuvent offrir autant de témoignages artistiques sur quelques kilomètres seulement.Elle est par ailleurs la terre natale de peintres, de sculpteurs, d’architec-tes, d’écrivains célèbres: de Fran-cesco Borromini, Carlo Fontana et Carlo Maderno jusqu’à Mario Botta, en passant par les Maîtres de Cam-pione; de Vincenzo Vela à Paolo Bel-lini; de Francesco Chiesa et Alberto Nessi aux créatifs contemporains, autant d’artistes qui ont contribué à l’attrait d’une région qui est un pont culturel entre les pôles artistiques que sont Milan, Zurich et Bâle. Les amateurs de marche à pied trouvent dans presque chaque vil-lage des églises et des musées, pré-cieux écrins à déguster avec calme et respect, ainsi que l’insolite Musée du Territoire de la Valle di Muggio.Ces paysages bucoliques ne doi-vent toutefois pas faire oublier la modernité et le dynamisme de cette Région, un lieu important de culture cosmopolite et humaniste grâce à l’Académie d’Architecture de Men-drisio. Le visiteur attentif saura éga-lement apprécier la simplicité de l’art populaire dans les chapelles, les glacières, les échoppes des potiers, les fournaises, les fonderies d’art, autant d’éléments qui contribuent à faire de cette terre un véritable lieu de culture.

The Mendrisiotto was a farming area where artists who were famous all over Europe were born and where at the beginning of the 20th cen-tury young German-speaking art-ists found natural and human land-scapes with strong vibrant colours.The Mendrisiotto was an inexhaust-ible source of pristine inspiration and stimuli for their art. It is a border land open to all people and does not put its treasures on show immediately.Very few regions in Europe can offer so many artistic signs of the past in a small area. This is home to quite well-known painters, sculptors, ar-chitects, writers: from Francesco Borromini, Carlo Fontana and Carlo Maderno to the “Master Builders of Campione” and to Mario Botta; from Vincenzo Vela to Paolo Bellini; from Francesco Chiesa and Alberto Nessi to the creative contemporary artists who make the artistic life of an area very interesting; it is traditionally a cultural bridge between the artistic poles of Milan, Zurich and Basel. In almost all the villages and towns those who love walking will find churches and museums, precious treasure chests to be enjoyed with respect and calm, and in the Valle di Muggio an exceptional Museum in the land. But in spite of the bucolic landscapes it must not be forgotten that this is a modern, dynamic re-gion, an important place of cosmo-politan, humanistic culture, thanks to the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio. The attentive visitor will also see pure simplicity and popular art in the chapels, snow pits, the potters’ shops, furnaces and artistic foun-dries. Together they make this land a real place of culture.

Il dinamismo culturale si manifesta pure nei numerosi eventi estivi open air e multiculturali, e nella programmazione del Cinema Teatro di Chiasso, gioiello architettonico anni ‘30 aperto non solo a prosa e cinema, ma pure alla danza con-temporanea e alla musica. Accanto a questo attivo laboratorio culturale che sta rilanciando l’immagine di Chiasso, è stato creato un origina-le polo artistico che verte attorno al nuovissimo e avanguardista m.a.x. Museo, dedicato prevalentemente a grafica, design, fotografie e video, e allo Spazio Officina. Siamo nel cuore dell’Europa, dove la Svizzera è ormai lombarda, una zona privilegiata, creativa, innovati-va, dinamica dove a poco a poco in-contra l’Italia per ricostruire assieme quel ricco e generoso spazio insu-brico comune che solo la Storia ha voluto separare nel corso dei secoli.

Die Region Mendrisiotto e Basso Ceresio ist vor allem für den unver-fälschten Charakter ihrer Einwoh-ner und Erzeugnisse bekannt. Hier wurden Traditionen wie der Kult für das Heilige und das Profane, die Weinfeste, der Palio der Esel sowie die Viehschau San Martino über-liefert. Im Laufe der Jahre hat es einen Wandel in der Handwerkstä-tigkeit und in der beruflichen Welt gegeben, aber der Geist ist unver-ändert geblieben, und die Region eignet sich für eine Entdeckung in aller Ruhe unter Berücksichtigung ihrer Identität und Kultur. Die kultu-relle Dynamik der Region zeigt sich auch in den zahlreichen multikultu-rellen Open-Air-Veranstaltungen im Sommer sowie im Programm des Cinema Teatro in Chiasso, einem erst kürzlich restaurierten architek-tonischen Schmuckstück aus dem Jahre 1935, das nicht nur für Thea-ter- und Kinovorstellungen, sondern auch für zeitgenössischen Tanz und Musikaufführungen offen ist. Neben dieser aktiven Kulturwerkstatt, die das Ansehen von Chiasso erneuert, entstand ein originelles Künstlerzen-trum: das neue, avantgardistische m.a.x.museo, das sich überwiegend mit den Themen Grafik, Design, Fo-tografie und Videos beschäftigt, und der Spazio Officina. Wir befinden uns im Herzen Euro-pas, wo die Schweiz in die Lom-bardei übergeht. Eine privilegierte, kreative, innovative, dynamische Gegend, die immer näher an Italien rückt, und mit ihr ein gemeinsames, reiches und grosszügiges insubri-sches Gebiet wieder aufbaut, das allein die Geschichte im Laufe der Jahrhunderte getrennt hielt.

Le Mendrisiotto e Basso Ceresio est l’un des endroits les plus authenti-ques et naturels du Tessin, où les habitants ont un sens marqué de l’hospitalité, et ont su conserver les traditions telles que le culte du sacré et du profane, les fêtes des vendan-ges, les Processions Historiques à Pâques, le Palio des ânes ou la foire au bétail de la Saint Martin. Avec le temps, les métiers et les traditions ont changés, mais l’esprit qui les anime est resté intact, dans une Ré-gion qui aujourd’hui se prête à être découverte avec calme et respect pour son identité et culture. Les nombreux événements estivaux en plein air et multiculturels, ainsi que la programmation du cinéma Teatro de Chiasso, véritable joyau architec-tural des années 30 ouvert non seu-lement à la prose et au cinéma, mais aussi à la danse contemporaine et à la musique, constituent d’autres facettes de ce dynamisme culturel. En plus de ce laboratoire culturel bouillonnant, qui relance l’image de Chiasso, a été créé un pôle artisti-que original, qui tourne autour du tout récent m.a.x. Museo, musée de l’avant-garde consacré surtout au graphisme, au design, à la photo et à la vidéo, et du Spazio Officina.Nous sommes en plein cœur de l’Eu-rope, là où la Suisse devient lombar-de, une région privilégiée, créative, novatrice et dynamique, où petit à petit elle rencontre l’Italie pour cons-truire ensemble ce riche et généreux espace insubrique commun, que seule l’histoire a voulu séparer au cours des siècles.

The Mendrisiotto e Basso Ceresio Region is one of the most authen-tic genuine places in Ticino, where people have a great sense of hos-pitality and have know known how to pass down traditions like the cult for the holy and profane, the wine harvest festival, the Historical Easter Processions, the donkey race or the livestock fair of Saint Martin. Over time the professions and trad-itions have changed but the spirit has remained the same and today the Region lends itself to discovery with calm and respect for its identity and culture. The cultural dynamism can be also be seen in various open-air summer events, which are multi-cultural, and in the programme too for the Cinema Teatro in Chiasso, which is an architectonic jewel from the 30s open not only to prose and cinema but also to contemporary dance and music. An original artis-tic pole has been created alongside this active cultural laboratory, which is relaunching the image of Chiasso; this new pole revolves around the very new and avant-garde m.a.x. Museo, which is dedicated mainly to graphics, design, photography and video, and also the Spazio Officina.We are in the heart of Europe, where Switzerland is like a part of Lombar-dy, a privileged area, which is crea-tive, innovative and dynamic; where it gradually meets Italy to reconstruct together that rich and generous common cross-border space which only history wanted to separate over the course of the centuries.

Quando arriva il caldo torrido del-l’estate si cerca la frescura nei grot-ti, sotto fronde di platani secolari, sorseggiando un tazzino di Merlot, gustando un soffice formaggino di capra, uno Zincarlin della Valle di Muggio o un pesce in carpione.Le proposte gastronomiche sono ovunque grazie anche ai numerosi prodotti locali tipici del Mendrisiotto. Pietanze umili ma gustose nei grotti e nelle trattorie, raffinate interpreta-zioni della cucina contadina nei ri-storanti eleganti. I prodotti della terra sono spesso lo specchio di un terri-torio. Come i formaggini della Valle di Muggio, rinomati per il loro tipico aroma legato ad una flora caratteri-stica e a tecniche ancestrali. Pure il miele è molto ricercato cosiccome i prodotti della mazza, fra cui un pro-fumato prosciutto con l’osso. Una volta alimento principale, oggi la castagna è regina nelle frequenta-tissime sagre paesane che propon-gono sia caldarroste, farina, pane, torte e marmellate prodotte con i frutti del castagno, sia burro e ricot-te caserecci, erbe medicinali, nocini, grappe nostrane e un prezioso olio d’oliva. Pure l’uva è regina: è pae-saggio umano e naturale, lavoro, vita comunitaria, folclore, turismo, identità. Il Merlot, vino ricercato che fa ottima figura nei concorsi, nelle guide specializzate, nei ristoranti rinomati, è un vitigno di origine bor-dolese affermato in Ticino da oltre 100 anni.

Wenn die Bruthitze des Sommers zurück kehrt, findet man Abkühlung in den Grotti unter den Blättern der jahrhundertealten Platanen, wo man ein Gläschen Merlot, einen weichen Ziegenkäse, ein Zincarlin aus dem Muggiotal oder einen marinierten Fisch kosten kann. Das kulinarische Angebot ist sehr vielfältig, was auch den verschie-denen typischen einheimischen Produkten des Mendrisiotto zu ver-danken ist. In den Grotti und Trat-torie werden bescheidene, aber schmackhafte Gerichte serviert, in den eleganten Restaurants hinge-gen raffinierte Interpretationen der bäuerlichen Küche. Die Landpro-dukte sind oft der Spiegel eines Lan-des. So die Formaggini des Muggio-tals (Weichkäse), berühmt aufgrund ihres typischen Geschmacks, der mit der charakteristischen Flora und den vererbten Techniken verbunden ist. Ebenso gefragt sind der Honig sowie die Schlachtprodukte, dar-unter ein duftender Schinken vom Knochen. Früher war die Kastanie ein grundlegendes und unverzicht-bares Lebensmittel, heute ist sie die Königin der vielbesuchten Dorffes-te und Kirchweihen, wo sie in Form von Röstkastanien, Kastanienmehl, Brot, Kuchen und Marmeladen zusammen mit hausgemachtem Butter und Quark, Heilkräutern, einheimischen Spirituosen wie No-cino und Grappa sowie einem hochwertigen Olivenöl angeboten werden. Die Traube ist hierzulande auch eine Königin: Sie ist zugleich Landschaft von Mensch und Natur, Arbeit, Gemeinschaftsleben,Volks-kunde, Identität und Tourismus. Der Merlot ist ein geschätzter Wein, der in den Wettbewerben, in den Fach-zeitschriften, in den renommierten Restaurants immer gut abschnei-det. Der Weinstock hat seinen Ur-sprung in der Region von Bordeaux und wird seit über Hundert Jahren im Tessin erfolgreich angebaut.

Dans la chaleur torride de l’été, l’on recherche la fraîcheur des grotti, à l’ombre des feuillages de platanes séculaires, en sirotant un bol de Merlot, en savourant un moelleux fromage de chèvre, un fromage Zincarlin de la Valle di Muggio ou un poisson conservé in carpione.Les propositions gastronomiques abondent grâce notamment aux nombreux produits locaux typiques de la Région de Mendrisio: des plats humbles mais goûteux dans les grotti et les trattorie aux interpré-tations raffinées de la cuisine pay-sanne des restaurants élégants. Les produits du terroir reflètent souvent la région, tels que les formaggini de la Valle di Muggio, connus pour leur arôme caractéristique dû à la flore de la région et à des techniques an-cestrales. Le miel est lui aussi très apprécié, de même que les salai-sons, tels que l’aromatique jambon à l’os. Aliment de base de jadis, les châtaignes sont maintenant les ve-dettes des fêtes de village actuelles, lesquelles proposent à la foule qui se presse parmi les étals marrons chauds, farine, pain, gâteaux et con-fitures à base de fruits du châtaignier, mais aussi beurre et ricotta faits mai-son, herbes médicinales, nocino et grappa du terroir, ainsi qu’une pré-cieuse huile d’olive. Le raisin n’est pas de reste, puisqu’il est présent dans le paysage humain et naturel, le travail, la vie communautaire, le folklore, le tourisme, l’identité. Cé-page d’origine bordelaise implanté au Tessin depuis plus d’un siècle, le Merlot produit un vin apprécié qui brille aussi bien dans les concours et les guides spécialisés que dans les restaurants renommés.

With the arrival of the torrid sum-mer heat people go for the cool in the grottos, beneath the fronds of centuries-old plane trees, sipping a cup of Merlot wine, tasting a soft small goats’ milk cheese, a Zincarlin from the Muggio Valley, or soused fish. Suggestions for eating can be found everywhere thanks to the many typical local products of the Men-drisiotto: humble but tasty dishes in the grottos and taverns, refined interpretations of country cooking in the elegant restaurants.The products of the land are often the mirror of an area; like the small cheeses from the Valle di Muggio, known for their typical aroma linked to a characteristic flora and ancestral techniques. Honey is also sought after, as are meat products like an aromatic ham on the bone.The chestnut, which was once a stable food, is now queen of the very popular country festivals which offer roast chestnuts, flour, bread, cakes and jams all produced with the fruit of the chestnut tree; and also home-made butter and ricotta, medicinal herbs, walnut liqueur, local grappa and a precious olive oil. The grape is also queen; it represents the coun-tryside of nature and man, work, life together, folklore, tourism, identity.Merlot wine, which is very popular and does well in competitions, in specialised guides, famous restaur-ants, comes from a wine species of Bordeaux origin which was brought to Ticino more than 100 years ago.

Il Mendrisiotto è da sempre una re-gione prediletta dagli amanti degli sport all’aria aperta: è l’ideale non solo per bucoliche passeggiate, per escursioni in bicicletta o in mountain bike, ma anche per vivere forti emo-zioni con il parapendio o meritato relax nelle acque del lago. Ma a farla da padrone è il ciclismo: molte le competizioni a carattere locale, nazionale ed internazionale che negli anni hanno visto protago-nista le strade della regione, come molti sono i professionisti e gli ap-passionati che qui hanno iniziato la loro carriera. Le due ruote e il pae-saggio del Mendrisiotto e dell’Insu-bria italo-svizzera sono un connubio perfetto che risponde al bisogno di libertà e al piacere di scoprire un ter-ritorio senza fretta, in ogni stagione, godendo in estate del verde brillante dei boschi o dei caldi colori ocra del-la campagna invernale. La scelta di organizzare i Campionati Mondiali di ciclismo nel 2009 proprio in questa regione ne è la prova. Godere del tempo libero non significa solo pra-ticare sport di ogni genere ma pure immergersi nel piacere del dolce far niente, perdersi fra le note del sacro e del profano, cogliere il sorriso di un bimbo davanti alle tradizioni in una sagra settembrina, o appassionarsi per affreschi e pietre antiche, o per un coppo sull’acciottolato.

Die Region Mendrisiotto ist seit je-her von den Menschen, die gerne Sport im Freien treiben, sehr be-liebt. Das Gebiet eignet sich nicht nur für bukolische Wanderungen, Fahrrad- bzw. Mountainbikeausflü-ge, sondern auch für diejenigen, die starke Gefühle mit dem Gleitschirm erleben möchten oder sich einfach am See entspannen möchten. Aber der Hausherr ist hier der Rad-sport. In zahlreichen lokalen, natio-nalen und internationalen Rennen im Laufe der Jahre waren die Stras-sen der Region die Hauptdarsteller. Ebenso haben viele Radprofis und Liebhaber ihre Karriere hierzulande begonnen. Die Zweiräder und die Landschaft des Mendrisiotto und der italienisch-schweizerischen Re-gion Insubria stellen eine perfekte Kombination dar, die dem Wunsch nach Freiheit entspricht sowie der Freude an der Entdeckung einer Region in aller Ruhe und zu jeder Jahreszeit mit den glänzenden grü-nen Tönen der Wälder im Sommer und der ockergelben Farbe der Win-terfelder. Die Wahl dieser Region als Austra-gungsort für die Rad-Weltmeister-schaften 2009 ist ein Beweis dafür.Freizeit geniessen bedeutet aber nicht nur Sport treiben, sondern auch dem süssen Nichtstun frö-nen, sich zwischen dem Heiligen und dem Weltlichen verirren, das Lächeln eines Kindes vor den Tra-ditionen einer Herbst-Kirchweih wahrnehmen ebenso wie die Lei-denschaft für Fresken und alte Steine oder für eine mit Kopfsteinen gepflasterte Strasse.

Le Mendrisiotto est depuis toujours une Région privilégiée pour les ama-teurs de sports en plein air: elle se prête idéalement à de bucoliques promenades, à des excursions à vélo ou en VTT, mais aussi aux émo-tions fortes telles que vol à voile, ou à un agréable moment de détente dans les eaux du lac. Mais c’est le cyclisme qui reste toujours indé-trônable: en effet, de nombreuses compétitions ont eu lieu sur les rou-tes de cette région, tant au niveau local, que national ou international, et nombreux sont les professionnels et les passionnés de cyclisme qui ont effectué ici leurs premiers tours de roue. Le vélo conjugué au paysage du Mendrisiotto et de la Région In-subrique italo-helvétique répondent à la perfection au besoin de liberté et au plaisir de découvrir un territoire sans hâte, en toute saison, en ap-préciant le vert lumineux du paysage en été ou les doux tons d’ocre de la campagne en hiver. Pour preuve, les Championnats Mondiaux de Cyclis-me de 2009 ont été organisés dans cette région. Les loisirs ne sont pas seulement synonymes de sport en tous genres, mais aussi de plaisir, comme celui de s’adonner au dolce farniente, de flâner entre les notes du sacré et du profane, de capturer le sourire d’un enfant parmi les rituels d’une fête folklorique en septembre, ou de se prendre de passion pour les fresques et les vieilles pierres, ou pour le charme d’une tuile brisée sur le pavé.

The Mendrisiotto has always been a favourite Region for lovers of out-door sports; it is ideal not only for walks in the countryside, rides on bicycles or mountain bikes but also paragliding in order to experience strong emotions, or for well-earned relaxation in the waters of the lake. But cycling is the main sport; there are many local, national and inter-national competitions which have taken place on the roads of the area, and many professionals and fans have started their careers here. Two wheels and the countryside of the Mendrisiotto and the Italian-Swiss cross-border area are a per-fect combination responding to the need for freedom and pleasure of discovering an area without haste, in every season, enjoying the brilliant green of the woods in summer or the warm ochre colours of the winter landscape. The proof of this is the decision to organise the World Cycling Cham-pionships in 2009 in this Region. Enjoying free time does not only mean practising all kinds of sport but also being able to do sweet noth-ing, spending time between sacred and profane notes, noting a child’s smile during a traditional Septem-ber festival or enthusing over fres-coes and ancient stones or a tile on the cobble-stones.
