Prosper moves to Stage 2 from June 1 to Sept. 30Conservation still necessary, though most restrictions are lifted

PROSPER (June 1, 2012) As of Friday, June 1 and continuing until the end of September, the Town of Prosper will move

from Stage 3 to Stage 2 on its water conservation plan, according to Mike Land, Town Manager.

Our goal of reducing water usage by at least five percent is still in effect, and we will continue to do everythingwe can to meet that goal. However, because of changing circumstances, the restrictions that were part of Stage 3 will

be lifted during the summer and into the fall, he said.

The rains that fell in the early spring and filled the reservoirs used by the North Texas Municipal Water District

(NTMWD) along with the effectiveness of water conservation measures at Stage 3 have combined to lessen the need to

continue at that level. Nevertheless, there is the lingering issue of reduced water capacity due to NTMWDs self-

imposed prohibition of harvesting water from Lake Texoma due to the presence of invasive zebra mussels. The mussels

which are non-native, can cause severe damage to pipes and pumps.

The fact that Lake Texoma remains offline makes water conservation a continuing priority, regardless of the

announced stage of our plan. Water is a non-renewal resource, and the needs of our fast-growing community still have

the potential to cause serious strains on the system, said Land. Water should never be wasted or used without first

    thinking about our long-term needs.

During Stage 2, Prosper residents are asked to limit landscape watering with sprinklers or irrigation systems to

no more than twice per week, and then only if needed.

Residents with house numbers ending in an even number (0, 2, 4, 6 or 8) may water on Tuesdays and Saturdays.Residents with house numbers ending in an odd number (1, 3, 5, 7 or 9) may water on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Commercial businesses, homeowner associations, multi-family residences, churches and schools may water on Mondays

    and Thursdays.
