Welcome to Bexhill Academy – a vibrant, dynamic school at the heart of the Bexhill community.

Choosing the right secondary school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make on their behalf. At Bexhill Academy we aim to exceed parents’ expectations of what a good school should offer their child. Within a welcoming and supportive environment, we provide a stimulating and engaging education, designed to give every child the chance to achieve their full potential.

Having completed the refurbishment of the building in June 2016 we now have the very best facilities to provide an outstanding learning environment for your child. The staff and students are very proud of our academy and all we have achieved over the last three years transforming Bexhill Academy into the Ofsted ‘Good’ school it is today.

“In the last three years the school has improved beyond all recognition.”Ofsted May 2017

This prospectus can only give a glimpse of the academy. To see for yourself what the academy has to offer, please come to our ‘Open Evening’ or one of our ‘Open Days’ or even make an arrangement to visit us at another time.

“This year the Principal can celebrate the school’s transformationbecause pupils are taught well and achieving well.”Ofsted May 2017

I very much look forward to welcoming you to Bexhill Academy.

At Bexhill Academy our curriculum is stimulating and diverse. It is designed to offer challenge to all abilities; stretching the minds of the most able to become enquiring and independent thinkers, yet offering support to those who find their studies to be more difficult.

Students are encouraged to take risks, work creatively and make the best use of technology. We offer extensive support to those students who are gifted and talented, as well as those with Special Educational Needs, learning difficulties and/or disabilities.

At Bexhill Academy we strive for excellence not only in the core subjects of English, Maths and Science, but also across all departments including subjects such as Art, Music, Drama and Physical Education. We focus on equipping our young people with the necessary skills to make a successful progression to College.

We encourage all our students to be FAIR: Focussed, Aspirational, Independent and Resilient learners.

At Bexhill Academy we believe that it is essential for our students to flourish both inside and outside of the classroom.

Our students are motivated and inspired by the wide ranging opportunities that are available. These include a range of trips and visits, school productions, concerts and charitable activities that support their learning and personal development. In addition, we offer over 30 extra curricular clubs that students can attend.

Celebrating achievement is very important at Bexhill Academy and we encourage our students to applaud one another in their successes. Each June we hold our Speech Day and Year 8 Graduation Ceremony at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill. This annual event celebrates the outstanding achievements of students across the Academy from Year 7 to Year 11.

Year 7 Scholarship ProgrammeEach year we offer a number of Year 7 scholarships. These cover the areas of Sport, Art, Music, Drama and Academic Scholarships. Details of this programme can be found on our website.

“All the pupils met during the inspection felt safe and secure and it is clear that issues are not swept under the carpet but tackled head on.”Ofsted 2017

The House SystemOur House system is made up of 5 houses: Cambridge, Imperial, Oxford, Yale and Harvard. The House system creates a very distinct ethos, one built on pride and achievement. The House system provides a vehicle for us to celebrate success and develop student leadership opportunities.

Each House has its own identity created by having a Head Boy and Head Girl, a House mascot, song, and charity. Students are encouraged to strive for excellence in all things and along the way gain points for their House. Students are placed into vertical tutor groups consisting of approximately 5 students from each year group. The older students act as positive role models for our younger students and help them successfully navigate their journey through secondary school.

At the very heart of the school is a kind and caring community; teachers and support staff areexcellent role models and our students are encouraged to support each other.

Key Contacts - The TutorEvery student belongs to a vertically organised tutor group which meets once a day with their tutor. Tutor groups have been carefully organised and will stay together throughout their time at Bexhill Academy. The tutor is the first point of contact for both students and parents.

School UniformStudents are ambassadors for the school and are expected to dress and behave in a way that reflects the high standards we seek to achieve. Therefore, the wearing of the correct school uniform is very important to us and strictly monitored.

Year 8 GraduationWe firmly believe that hard work and resilience are, without doubt, the most important indicators of success. Graduation from Year 8 to Year 9 is dependent upon students demonstrating a high level of engagement with their learning and homework in all of their lessons. Truly outstanding engagement will enable students to graduate with honours.

Punctuality and AttendanceIf your child is to achieve their full potential then it is essential that they attend school. Punctuality is also an important part of self-discipline and is essential to good time management.
