1. JamiaMilliaIslamiaJamiawasestablishedin1920byagroupofNationalistMuslimintelligentsialikeMaulanaMohammadAliJauhar,ShaikhulHindMaulanaMahmudHasan,HakimAjmalKhan,ShriA.M.Khwaja,Dr.MukhtarAhmadAnsari, Dr. Zakir Husain and other such luminaries, at Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh) in the wake of the anti-colonial activism signified by the Khilafat and the pro-independence aspirations symbolized by the non-cooperationmovementoftheIndianNationalCongresswhichhelpedtoharnesscreativeenergiesandthesubsequent making of Jamia Millia Islamia. Its campus shifted from Aligarh to Delhi in 1925 and thefoundation stone of the present campus was laid on 1st March 1930. Since then, the university hasexpanded and become known as a premier educational institution of the country. Recognizing itscontributions in the field of teaching, research and extension work, the University Grants Commission(UGC)bestowedthe“deemeduniversity”statustoitin1962.TheJamiawasmadeaCentralUniversitybyanActofParliament in1988vide JamiaMillia IslamiaAct1988 (No.58of1988). TheDegrees/Diplomas/CertificatesofferedbyJamiaMilliaIslamia,arerecognizedbyallthemembersoftheAssociationofIndianUniversities(AIU)andareatparwithDegrees/DiplomasandCertificatesofallIndianUniversities,DeemedUniversitiesandinstitutions.Subsequently,theNationalCommissionforMinorityEducationalInstitutionson22February2011granted“MinorityInstitution”statustoJamiaMilliaIslamiaunderArticle30(1)oftheconstitutionreadwithSection2(G)oftheNationalCommissionforMinoritiesInstitutionsAct.Jamia reflects the original concern of its founders, which was to encourage the indigenous roots ofeducation.Ithascherishedandhascontinuedtoencourageacriticalappreciationofthecountry’shistoryandcultureandalsothehistoryofIslamwithitsrichculturalandintellectualtraditions.Itseekstofosteranationalandcosmopolitanperspectiveinitsacademicprogramsaswellasinco-curricularactivities.From its inception, the Jamia catered to students from disadvantaged backgrounds and its coursecurriculum was suited to meet the needs of such students. The university was an active participant inspreading Gandhiji’s idea of nai talim. Vocational training and school education became one of thecornerstonesofJamiaeducationandmodelsforinnovativeteaching.Today,JamiaMilliaIslamiaisan“A”gradeCentralUniversityaccredditedbyNAACandisanensembleofamultilayerededucationalsystemwhichcoversallaspectsofschooling,under-graduateandpost-graduateeducation. The university recognizes that teaching and research are complementary activities that canadvance its long-term interest. It has Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering & Technology,Education,Humanities&Languages,Architecture&Ekistics,FineArts,LawandDentistryFaculties.Also,ithasawellknownAJKMassCommunicationResearchCentre.JamiaMilliaIslamiahasoverthirtyresearchcentresthathavegivenitanedgeintermsofcriticalresearchinvariousareas.SomeoftheseareCentrefor Peace and Conflict Resolution; Academy of International Studies; Centre for Culture, Media andGovernance; Centre for Dalit andMinorities Studies; Centre for Nanosciences and Nanotechnology; FTKCentreforInformationTechnology;CentreforManagementStudies;Dr.K.R.NarayananCentreforDalit&MinorityStudies;CentreforWestAsianStudies;CentreforPhysiotherapy&RehabilitationSciences;CentreforTheoreticalPhysicsandCentreforInterdisciplinaryResearchinBasicSciences.The JamiaMillia IslamiaconductsUndergraduate,Postgraduate,M.PhilandPh.D.aswellasDiplomaandCertificatecourses.JamiaMilliaIslamiacontinuestocatertotheinterestsofstudentsfromallcommunities,butalsoaimstomeet theparticularneedsof thedisadvantagedsectionsof theMuslimsociety. Trueto the legacyof itsfounders,itcontinuestosupportmeasuresforaffirmativeactionandfosterthegoalsofbuildingasecularand modern system of integrated education. 1.1 PanaromicProfile:2014-2015Jamia Millia Islamia, has a historical and distinctive place in the country’s academic scenario. Thisinstitutionplacesapremiumoninnovativeteachingandprofessionaltrainingrightsinceitsinceptionin1920. Over the years, Jamia has emerged as a seat of learning that underscores the cultural andreligiousdiversityof India,emphasizing the inclusive spiritof thecountry. Ithas inculcateda spiritoflearning that blends tradition with modernity, humanism with liberalism, and nation building withprofessionalism.Jamia’sstrengthliesinitsabilitytocullfromthepastinordertoaddressthepresentandforgethefuture.

Educatorsandresearchershavecontributedtoexpandingknowledge inall the faculties,departmentsandCentresofJamiaMilliaIslamia.Jamiahas“unwaveringcommitmenttoexcellence”,andtomaintainthe quality of education as well as research. The university has submitted a report to the NationalAssessmentandAccreditationCouncilinDecember2012fortheevaluationandaccreditation.

2.1.1Ph.D.Admissions

2.2 GeneralGuidelines(i) Admissionofeligible candidates to all Programsofferedby various Faculties andCentresof Jamia

MilliaIslamiashallbedonethroughmeritdeterminedonthebasisofanEntranceTestconductedbyJMI,andwhereverapplicable,followedbyaninterviewand/orothercomponents.

(ii) AdmissiontoB.Tech./B.Arch.programsofJamiaMilliaIslamiaarehowevermadebasedonthemeritdeterminedby theperformanceof candidte in JEE (Main).For further informationcandidatesmayrefertoInformationBrochureforB.Tech/B.Arch.Admision2016-17.

(iii) Candidatesobtaining less than40%marks in thedescriptivepartof theEntranceTest,whereverapplicable,willnotbeshortlistedforinterview/admission.

(iv) There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in the ObjectiveType/MultipleChoicequestionsinallprogramsoftheUniversityexceptM.Phil.,B.Arch.andB.D.S.

(v) The absence of a candidate in any component of the Entrance Test including Written Test, GroupDiscussion,Interview,asthecasemaybe,shallforfeithis/herclaimforadmissioninthesaidProgram.

(vi) No application/request from candidates for rechecking/re-evaluation of Answer Scripts of anEntranceTestshallbeentertained.

(vii) There is no provision of nomination on any seat by any authority of Jamia and no application/requestshallbeentertainedinthisregard.

(viii) The number of seats mentioned in various Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs is onlyindicative of the maximum intake capacity of each Program and does not bind the University toadmitthenumberofstudentsspecified.ThenumberofstudentsfinallyadmittedshalldependontheminimumbenchmarkofProgramintheEntranceTest/Interviewetc.

(ix) Nocandidateshallbeentitledtoclaimadmissionasamatterofright.(x) Candidates are strongly advised to regularly check the University website (http://jmi.ac.in) for

2.4 SubmissionofApplicationForm

(iii) TheOnlineFormsubmissionprocessconsistsoftwo-phasesviz(a) Candidate’sRegistration:EntryofBasicProfileoftheCandidate,and(b) Entrance Application Submission: Choosing of Program(s), Category and Submission of

EntranceApplicationFee(Rs.700/-orRs.500/-).(iv) Beforeapplyingforadmission,candidateisadvisedtoensurehis/hereligibilityasperthecriterialaid

downintheprospectus.(v) A candidate must have passed the qualifying examination from a board/university/institute

recognized by JMI. Jamia Millia Islamia recognises degrees of all central universities, stateuniversities, institutions of national importance and foreign universities, provided that theirequivalence has been established by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). JamiaMilliaIslamiareservestherighttorejecttheapplicationform(s)/canceladmissiononaccountofanyofthefollowing:(i) IfacandidatesubmitsmorethanoneapplicationformforthesameProgram.(ii) Ifacandidatefailstosubmithis/herresult/certificateforthequalifyingexamination(s)orfailsto

3.0 RESERVATIONOFSEATS

3.1 GeneralGuidelines

(i) CandidatesseekingadmissionunderreservedcategorycanapplyforreservationunderONEcategoryonlyandshallberequiredtofulfiltheprescribedeligibilityconditionsoftheProgram.

(ii) Relaxationinminimumprescribedpercentageofmarks inthequalifyingexaminationforadmissiontoaProgramshallbepermissibleonlyunderonerelaxationcriteria.

(iii) If a reserved category candidate qualifies the Entrance Test for admission under theGeneral category,he/sheshallbeconsideredundertheGeneralcategoryaswellastheclaimedreservedcategory.However,theadmissiontosuchcandidateshallbegivenunderonecategoryonlybasedonhis/herstandinginthemeritlist.

3.2 MuslimMinority

Vide Judgementdated22.2.2011 inCaseNo. 1443of 2006 (alongwith connectedpetitions), the JamiaMilliaIslamiahasbeendeclaredaMinorityEducationalInstitutionunderArticle30(1)oftheConstitutionofIndiareadwithSection2(g)oftheNationalCommissionforMinorityEducationalInstitutionsActbytheCommission.Asaconsequencethereof,theUniversityshallprovideforthefollowingreservations:

(i) 30%ofthetotalnumberofseatsineachProgramshallbeearmarkedforMuslimapplicants.(ii) 10%ofthetotalnumberofseatsineachProgramshallbeearmarkedforWomenapplicantswhoare

Muslims.(iii) 10%ofthetotalnumberofseatsineachProgramshallbeearmarkedfor“OtherBackwardClasses”(OBCs)

andScheduledTribeswhoareMuslims,asperthelistnotifiedbytheCentralGovernment.Note:• ThereservationforMuslimOBCcandidateswillonlybeapplicabletothecandidatesbelongingto“Non-

3.3 PersonswithDisabilities

3%seatsinallProgramsinJamiaMilliaIslamiashallbereservedforphysicallychallengedpersonsinaccordancewith the provisions of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full

Participation)Act,1995underthefollowingcategories(totheextentof1%each,and interchangeable intra incaseofnonavailabilityofeligibleapplicants):

(i) Blindness/lowvision;(ii) Hearingimpairment;(iii) Locomotordisabilityorcerebralpalsy.

Candidates under these categories will be given relaxation to the extent of 5% marks in the qualifyingexamination.

Unlessandotherwiseprovided,onlysuchcandidatesshallbeconsideredunderthiscategorywhoaresufferingfromnotlessthan40%ofdisabilityascertifiedbyacompetentmedicalauthority.

ProvidedthatintheFacultyofDentistry,candidateswithonlylocomotorydisabilityoflowerlimbsbetween50%to70%willbeconsidered.Incaseofunavailabilityofsuchcandidates,unfilledseatsinthis3%quotashallbefilledupbypersonswith locomotorydisabilityof lower limbsbetween40%to50%before theyare included in theannualsanctionedseatsforGeneralCategorycandidatesaspertheD.C.I.Gazettenotification.

3.4 Internal(Jamia)Students

5%seatsinallUndergraduateDegree/Diploma/CertificateProgramsshallbefilledbyinternalstudentsofJamiawhohavepassedtheirqualifyingexamination(XorXII)fromJamiaSchoolsasregularstudents.

Note:StudentspermittedtoappearinvariousexaminationsofJamiaasPrivateCandidates/Distancemode,shallnotbeentitledforconsiderationundertheInternal(Jamia)category.

4.0 RESERVATIONANDRELAXATIONUNDERSPECIALPROVISIONS

4.1 KashmiriMigrants

(i) Kashmirimigrantsarerequiredtoapplyandgothroughtheentireadmissionprocess.Theiradmissionwillbeconsideredoverandabovenotexceeding5%ofthetotalseatsintheprogramandnotexceedingoneseat in programs offered by Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Faculty of Architecture, AJK MassCommunicationResearchCentre,FacultyofLaw,FacultyofEducation,andCentreforPhysiotherapyandRehabilitationSciences.

(ii) ThereshallbenosuchprovisionforadmissionunderthecategoryofKashmiriMigrantsintheBachelorofDentalSurgery(BDS)Program.

(iii) Candidates seeking admission under this category will not be required to submit domicle certificate.However, they will have to submit a certificate in support of their claim of being Kashmiri migrantsobtainablefromtheregisteredDivisionalCommissioner,oftheconcernedState/UnionTerritory.

4.2 CandidatesfromJammu&Kashmir

(i) Candidates fromJammu&Kashmirarerequiredtoapplyandgothroughtheentireadmissionprocess.Theiradmissionwillbeconsideredoverandabovenotexceeding2seatsintheprogramandnotexceedingoneseat inprogramsofferedbyFacultyofEngineering&Technology,FacultyofArchitecture,AJKMassCommunicationResearchCentre,FacultyofLaw,FacultyofEducation,andCentreforPhysiotherapyandRehabilitationSciences.

(ii) Thereshallbenosuchprovisionforadmissionunderthecategoryof“CandidatesfromJammu&Kashmir”intheBachelorofDentalSurgery(BDS)Program.

(iii) Candidatesseekingadmissionunderthiscategorywillberequiredtosubmitastate-domicilecertificateinsupportoftheirclaimofbeingfromJammu&Kashmir.

4.3 ForeignCandidatesUnderGeneralCategory

(i) CandidatesofforeignoriginmayapplyasRegularcandidatesunderGeneralcategoryapartfromapplyingagainstsupernumeraryseats(PleaseseeSection7.2).Admissionofsuchcandidatesshallbesubjecttothelaiddowneligibilityconditionsoftheconcernedprogramandtheirpositioninthemeritlistoftheentrancetest (andothercomponentsof theentrancetest,whereverapplicable).Thenumberofsuchcandidatesshallnotexceed10%oftheregularseats.

(ii) The process of admission for foreign candidates applying under General Category shall be same as ofgeneralcategorycandidates.However,theprogramfeeshallbeasmentionedinsection7.6.

4.4 OutstandingPlayers

SeatsinvariouscoursesshallbereservedorspecialprovisionsbemadeforoutstandingplayersandprocedureshallbeadoptedforthepurposeofadmissionasperdetailsgivenbeloworasmaybedecidedfromtimetotimebytheMajlis-i-Talimi(AcademicCouncil):

(i) TheOfficeoftheDirector,PhysicalEducationmaybecontactedforanyadmissionrelatedqueries.(ii) Candidates seeking admission under sports categorymust have represented at International /

National/State/Regional/University (in the tournaments organized by Association of IndianUniversities)Levelinthegametheyareclaimingadmission.

(iii) Atthetimeofsubmissionofadmissionformundersportscategory,atrialslipcontainingthephotographoftheplayershallbeissuedwhichthecandidatemustbringatthetimeofthetrial.

(iv) Relaxationtotheextentof5%ofmarksinaggregateorinthesubjectconcerned,asthecasemaybe,willbegiventosuchcandidates.

(v) SuchcandidatesshallbeconsideredforadmissionbytheShaikhulJamia(Vice-Chancellor)overandabovetheseatsallottedtoeachcourseontherecommendationoftheGames&SportsCommittee.

(vi) ThereshallbenosuchprovisionofadmissionforoutstandingsportspersonsinanyprogramintheFacultiesof Engineering and Technology, Architecture and Ekistics, Dentistry, Centre for Physiotherapy &RehabilitationSciences,AJKMCRCandinotherProgramsasdecidedbytheAcademicCouncilfromtimetotime.

(vii) Candidates selected under sports category shall have to give a self-attested undertaking for theirconduct/participationinpractice/representingtheuniversityteamatthetimeofadmission.

(viii) AlltheoriginalsportscertificatesshallbekeptinthecustodyofOfficeoftheGamesandSportsforatleastoneyear.

(ix) Admissionundersportscategoryislimitedtothefollowinggames:Athletics,Badminton,Basketball,Boxing,Cricket,Football,Hockey,Shooting,TableTennis,Tennis,VolleyballandWrestling.

4.5 N.C.C.Cadets

(i) Relaxationtotheextentof5%marksinaggregateorinthesubjectconcerned,asthecasemaybe,willbegiventoN.C.C.cadetshavingthefollowingN.C.C.Certificates:• “A”or“B”Certificateforadmissiontoundergraduateprograms.• “C”CertificateforadmissiontopostgraduatePrograms.

(ii) StudentsadmittedonthisbasisshallhavetocontinueintheN.C.C.foratleastoneyear.(iii) Therelaxationofmarksshallbepermissibleonlyonproductionofrelevantcertificatedulyverifiedbythe

N.C.C.OfficeroftheJamia.

4.6 N.S.S.Volunteers

N.S.S.Volunteers,whohaveattendedtwo10-daysSpecialCampsandoneNationalIntegrationCamporRepublicDayCampmaybeprovidedarelaxationof2%marksinaggregateorinthesubjectconcernedasthecasemaybe.

AspecifiednumberofadmissionsagainstUrduMediumseatsinB.Ed.,B.Ed.Nursery,B.Ed.SpecialEducation,DiplomainElementaryEducationandBFAinArtEducationareprovidedtoprepareteachersforUrdumediumSchools.

(i) CandidatesapplyingforadmissionagainstUrdumediumseatsshouldhavepassedHighSchoolorahigherexaminationfromarecognizedBoard/UniversitywithUrduasanoptionalsubject.

(ii) CandidateshavingacquiredqualificationequivalenttoClassXandabovefromaMadrasarecognizedbyJamiaMilliaIslamiawillbeeligibleforadmissionagainstUrduMediumseats.

(iii) Candidates having passed Elementary/General Urdu and those possessing Urdu Proficiency Certificatefrom institutionsother thanrecognizedBoards/University (suchasUrduAcademies, JamiaUrduAligarhetc.)willnotbeconsideredeligibleforadmissionagainstUrduMediumseats.

5.0 ENTRANCETEST

AllcandidatesseekingadmissiontovariousprogramsarerequiredtoappearintheEntranceTest(s)whichin certain cases may be followed by other components such as interview etc. in accordance with theadmissionschedulegiveninAnnexure–I(Pages35-70).Thissectionprovidesthedetailsoftheadmissionprocess.

6.4 RulesRegardingFee(i) The feeof anadmitted studentof First Semesteronbeingadmitted toanotherprogramof JMI shall be

adjustedaccordingly if thefeeandthefeestructuresofthetwoprogramsaresame.However, if thefeeandthefeestructuresofthetwoprogramsdiffer,thestudentshallpayfullfeeforthenewprogrambytheprescribed date. In such a case, the full fee of old program shall be refunded as per the University’sprescribedprocedure.

(ii) In case of cancellation of admissionwithin amonth, all charges except admission feewill be refunded.However,incaseofself-financedprograms,only80%ofthefeeswillberefunded.

(iii) In case of cancellation of admission after one-month period, only CautionMoney will be refunded. Nocorrespondence in this regardwill beentertained. (NoFee refund ispermissible inB. Lib.& InformationScience(BLIS)program.)

(iv) In case a provisionally admitted student is unable to submit documentary evidences in support of theeligibilityfortheprogrambythelastnotifieddateallfeedepositedbyhim/hershallbeforfeited.

(v) Ifastudentdoesnotclaimtherefundofhis/hercreditbalancewithinoneyearof leavingtheJamia,theamountstandingtohis/hercreditshallbecreditedtotheCentralScholarshipFund.

(vi) TheCautionMoneywillberefundedonlyafterexaminationresultsareannounced.Ifitremainsunclaimedformorethanoneyearfromthedateofannouncementoftheresult,itshallnotberefundedandshallbecreditedtotheCentralScholarshipFund.

(vii) DependentsofstaffmembersofJamiashallnotberequiredtopayCautionMoney,ifastaffmembergivesundertaking in writing to the effect that the caution money, whenever required to be paid may bedeductedfromhis/hersalary.

7.1 ICCRApplicants

ICCRapplicantsarenominated/ sponsoredbyGovernmentof IndiaundervariousScholarshipSchemesof theIndian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). Candidates are advised to contact the nearest Indian DiplomaticMissionfornecessary informationaboutthesescholarships.Underthiscategory,5%seatsoverandabovetheregularseatsshallbeofferedtothem,subjecttosufficientinfrastructuralfacilities.

7.2 ForeignStudentsandNRIsUnderSupernumeraryCategory

(iii) IncasetheUniversity/Boardisnotincludedinthesaidlist,thecandidatehastoobtainandsubmitanEquivalenceCertificatetothiseffectfromtheAssociationofIndianUniversities.

(iv) Englishtranslationsofalltranscripts,dulyattested,aretobesubmitted.(v) Candidates applying from their own country should get their transcripts attested by the concerned

7.7 PaymentofFeeandOtherRelatedRules

Section6oftheProspectus.(v) In case a candidate admitted under Supernumerary/Self Financing category cancels his/her admission

withinamonth,80%of the feewillbe refunded in IndianRupeesprovided that the refund isclaimedwithin one year from the date of cancellation. Otherwise, only Security Deposit shall berefunded/adjusted.Nocorrespondenceinthisregardwillbeentertained.

(vi) If a student does not claim the refund of his/her credit balance within 1-year of leaving the Jamia, theamountstandingtohis/hercreditshallbeconsideredtohavebeendonatedtotheCentralScholarshipFund.

9.0 POSTADMISSIONGUIDELINES

(i) The admission of a candidatewill not be deemed complete unless he/she has an Identity CardissuedbytheProctor’sOffice.Admissionisliabletobecancelled,ifastudentdoesnothaveavalidIdentityCardissuedbytheProctor’sOfficewithinthestipulatedtime.

(ii) Candidatesadmitted tovariousPrograms in Jamiashallbe liable tosubmitanaffidavitonRs.10/-Non-JudicialStampPaper,certifiedbyafirstclassMagistrateassuringnottoindulgeinanyformofragging or undesirable activities, in a format obtainable from the office of the Department/Faculty/Centreconcerned.

(iii) Astudentshallnotordinarilybeallowedtochangetheoptional/subsidiarysubject(s)ofaProgram,unless the same is applied for and permittedwithin twoweeks from the date of admission. Suchapplications should be submitted to the Dean of the Faculty through the Head of theDepartment/CourseAdvisor.

(iv) Nocandidatewill beallowed to takeupa jobwhilepursuinga full timeProgram.Those,whoareemployed at the time of admission, will be required to produce a certificate of leave from theiremployer within one month from the date of admission, failing which their admission will becancelled.

(v) Theverificationof candidatesand theirdocuments shallbedoneby theOfficeof theDeanof theconcernedFaculty/DirectoroftheCentreorHeadoftheDepartment(forPostgraduateprograms)at

(vi) NocandidatestudyinginaregularfulltimeprograminJamiawillbeallowedtotakeadmissioninanyother regular course, except Programs under Career Oriented Programs of the UGC or part-timecourseseitherfromJamiaoranyotherUniversity/Institution.

(vii) StudentsareadvisedtocollectStudentsHandbookforthecurrentacademicsessionfromtheofficesof their respective Heads of Department/Directors of Centre. The Students’ Handbook containsacademic calendar and other important rules related to discipline, attendance, examinations, re-admission,andinformationrelatingtotransferofcreditsetc. AcopyofthehandbookmayalsobedownloadedfromJMI’swebsite.

(viii) Acandidatewhohas takenadmission toanyprogramasa full time regular studentwill forfeithisrightasanex-studentinJamiaandwillnotbeallowedtoappearinanyexaminationofJamiaasanex-student,exceptincaseofimprovement.
