VI RALEIGH LITTLE THEATRE

GUS ALLEN (Tumnus) is thrilled to return for his eighth Raleigh Little Theatre production, the most recent being One Man, Two Guvnors (Alan). His last Family Series show at RLT was Charlotte’s Web (Templeton) and he is happy to reunite with Heather Strickland (Charlotte) to make some magic once again. The role of Tumnus is a very special one and Gus is honored to bring him to life. Thank you to Patrick and the entire cast and crew for all the fun and hard work. Special thanks to Lisa Kasl in Nebraska for always helping with lines, and to Jesus Christ for always helping with life.

WAYNE BURTOFT (Father Christmas) is thrilled to be making his Raleigh Little Theatre debut in this amazing show! He’s been appearing around the Triangle scene for several years now. A few of his favorite roles include The Duke in Bare Theater’s Two Gentlemen of Verona, Matthew Cuthbert in Forest Moon Theater’s Anne of Green Gables, and Abraham Lincoln in Cary Playwrights Forum’s 3.0 Bar Plays. Thanks to our esteemed director for this fantastic opportunity!

SAM DAVIS (Wood Nymph/Witch’s Army/Ensemble) is an eighth grader at Ligon Middle School. He is excited to make his debut on the Raleigh Little Theatre stage. His favorite roles include Pony Boy Curtis in Ligon’s The Outsiders, Edgar in Justice Theater Project’s Ragtime, Charley Bates in JTP’s Oliver! and most recently Shrek in JTP’s Shrek the Musical. Sam would like to thank his parents, friends and fellow actors who support his love of theater.

SARA FRANTZ (Wood Nymph/Witch’s Army/Ensemble) is a spunky fourth grader at Thales Academy. This is her second performance at Raleigh Little Theatre. Sara attends acting and vocal performance classes at Moonlight Stage Company in Raleigh, NC. Recent stage credits include the role of the Tiny Door and the Queen’s Guard in the RLT performance of Alice @ Wonderland. Sara would like to thank her coach Sean McCracken, her family and friends for their love and support. Thank you Mr. Torres for this wonderful opportunity and for encouraging me!

TAYLOR GANTT (Susan) is currently a senior at Neuse Christian Academy. Over the summer, she was involved with the Teens Backstage program for the production of Into the Woods. She recently played Meg March in her school’s production of Little Women and will play Lady Merle in their upcoming production of Robin Hood. She is very excited and grateful for this opportunity. She would like to thank everyone involved for all their hard work.

FREYJA HELMER-SINDEMARK (Mrs. Beaver) works as an ESL instructor at Wake Tech and has spent many years as a devoted Raleigh Little Theatre volunteer. She is thrilled to be appearing on the stage at RLT for the first time. She has recently rediscovered her passion for theatre appearing as Jocasta in The Greeks with Burning Coal and as Carrie Nation for An Evening with a Prohibitionist at the Capitol Museum. Freyja would like to thank Patrick for this opportunity, Magnus for his support and encouragement, and her talented cast-mates for the fun!

MATTHEW HURLEY (Mr. Beaver) teaches drama at Holly Ridge Middle School where he will direct Mary Poppins, Jr. this spring. Previous Raleigh Litle Theatre productions include Beanstalk! the Musical! (Beanseller), James & the Giant Peach (Centipede), and The Crucible (Reverend Parris). The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was a favorite childhood book for him, so he is grateful to be a part of bringing this adventure to life on stage!

DEVON INGHAM (Fenris Ulf ) is a student at Wake Tech looking to transfer to UNCW. Born and raised in Garner, NC, he hopes to travel when he’s older. While starting out working behind the scenes on set crew he found a passion for acting. This is his second official show as an actor, but has been acting since his sophomore year of high school.

CHRISTOPHER JORDAN (Dwarf ) is excited to be working with the Raleigh Little Theatre for the first time! He is a 3rd grader at Casa Esperanza Montessori school, a spanish immersion school located in Raleigh. In his free time he enjoys skate boarding and playing outside. Thank you Patrick Torres for this wonderful opportunity!!

JESSICA JORDAN (Wood Nymph/Witch’s Army/Ensemble) is excited to be working with Raleigh Little Theatre for the first time! She is a 5th grader at Casa Esperanza Montessori school. She has enjoyed various roles in plays both at church and at school. Some recent credits include: Oliver and A Place Called Oz. In her free time she takes dance at CC&Co dance company. She enjoyed working with everyone in the show and is grateful for this opportunity!

CHRISTOPHER McBENNETT (Centaur) is a budding actor at NC State University, where he also works as a stage technician for Stewart Theater. His education at NCSU and beyond has given him a chance to experience all parts of theatrical production, both onstage, back stage, and in the designer’s chair. Previous credits include The Caterpillar in Raleigh Little Theatre’s Alice @ Wonderland, Anthony Marston in Stageworks Holly Springs’ And then There Were None, and Romeo in BARE Theatre’s Romeo and Juliet.

AURA PUGEDA (Lucy) is 10 years old and in the 5th grade in North Raleigh. This is her first production with Raleigh Little Theatre or anywhere else, aside from the daily performances she puts on for family and friends. She has en extreme passion for entertainment! Aura is honored to be working with RLT and has had a fantastic time with the staff and cast of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

JUSTIN SCRANTON (Aslan) last appeared at Raleigh Little Theatre as Dave Guy in Beertown. He fell in love with the Narnia chronicles as a child, but it was as a father reading the series to his three children that he really discovered the “deep magic” of Narnia. He is, therefore, elated to appear in this production alongside two of his children. When Scranton is not acting, he is the producer of 7-Stories, Raleigh’s live storytelling event, and a husband to his amazingly supportive wife, Mandy.

MARYJAYNE SCRANTON (Wood Nymph/Witch’s Army/Ensemble) attends 4th grade at Cathedral School in Raleigh where she enjoys percussion, drama, and art. She also dances with Arts & Together and has appeared in their dramatic musical, E-I-E-I-Oops, as Mrs. Farmer in the Dell. This is Maryjayne’s first play with Raleigh Little Theatre. She is excited to have her brother and father along for this ride.

SEAMUS SCRANTON (Wood Nymph/Witch’s Army/Ensemble) is appearing for his first time in a Raleigh Little Theatre production. He has previously appeared in productions with Arts Together and Cathedral School. Seamus attends 7th grade at Cathedral where he is a multi-time medalist in the Science Olympiad and an anchorman on the school’s weekly newscast.

CAST BIOGRAPHIESJACOB SEN (Peter) is a junior at Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill and is very excited to be making his debut with the Raleigh Little Theatre. Some of his past credits include Lamar in Godspell, Grantaire in Les Miserables, Danny in Xanadu jr., and Lord Farquaad in Shrek jr. He would like to thank his parents for their continual support and this amazing cast and crew for all of their hard work!

HEATHER J. STRICKLAND (White Witch) has worked in the Triangle for 15 years as a director, actor, and dance/fight choreographer. Most recently, Strickland directed Raleigh Little Theatre’s What We’re Up Against and choreographed Justice Theatre Project’s Oliver! She has been on-stage in many roles, favorites include Annie Sullivan in The Miracle Worker (Seed Art Share), Charlotte in Charlotte’s Web (RLT), Desdemona in Othello, and Ophelia in Hamlet (Bare Theatre). She works with schools and theaters as a teacher and choreographer, including RLT, Justice Theatre Project, and NC State University. Strickland has a degree in Theatre Arts from Flagler College and is trained by the Society of American Fight Directors. Love to my As.

ADDISION WELLS (Elf/White Stag) is a 3rd grader at Wiley Elementary and has been acting for over 3 years. This is her first production with Raleigh Little Theatre! She is also currently in rehearsals for The Lion King KIDS as Rafiki at Sonorous Road Theatre where she is a student. Her favorite past roles include Iago in Disney’s Aladdin Jr and Jaq in Cinderella KIDS. She would like to thank her parents for their support and hopes you enjoy the show!

MILES WIEDMANN (Edmund) is an 8th grader from Chapel Hill. This is his first show at Raleigh Little Theatre and he is excited to play such an interesting character. He’s been in many other shows such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as Willy Wonka and Rent as ensemble but this is only his second play. He would like to thank his parents for their support and for driving him to and from Raleigh every day.

ZOE WRIGHT (Unicorn) is thrilled to be back at Raleigh Little Theatre, where she previously played the Hen in Beanstalk! The Musical. Other recent shows include Yo! Vikings (Mom) at Applause Theater, and A Fairytale Christmas (Queen of Hearts) at the Halle Arts Center. Zoe is a sophomore at Apex Friendship High School. She would like to thank her family and everyone at RLT for believing in magic and Unicorns.

NOAH ZIMMERMANN (Wood Nymph/Witch’s Army/ Ensemble), a homeschooled 10th grader, is thrilled to be back at Raleigh Little Theatre for his third show. Previous Raleigh Little Theatre credits include Beanstalk! The Musical! (Jack 2) and James and the Giant Peach (Little Old Man/Cloud Man/New Yorker). He would like to thank the cast and crew for their hard work and his family for their continued support.

RALEIGH LITTLE THEATRE IX

PRODUCTION STAFF BIOGRAPHIESDENNIS R. BERFIELD (Production Manager/Technical Director) is from South Williamsport Pennsylvania. He attended Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. He went on to pursue a Masters of Fine Arts in Scenic Design and Technology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. During his time in undergraduate and graduate school, Dennis worked at various regional and off-Broadway theaters as a Scenic Artist, Carpenter, Master Carpenter, Scenic Designer, Assistant Technical Director, Scenic Coordinator, as well as many other backstage production roles. After working professionally for a number of years, Dennis became an adjunct professor at Millinkin University in Decatur, IL and eventually went on to become the Technical Director at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania.

ALEC HAKLAR (Assistant Technical Director) is a New Jersey native who graduated from North Carolina State University in May 2017. Prior to Raleigh Little Theatre, Alec worked as a freelance scenic carpenter at NC State’s University Theatre, Two River Theater, New Jersey Repertory Company, William Peace University, and the Berkshire Theatre Festival.

CYNITA LEW (Stage Manager) is a recent graduate of East Carolina University with a BFA in Stage Management. This is her first show with Raleigh Little Theatre, and is excited to join the family and learn from them all. Aside from working at ECU, she has also worked at Texas Outdoor Musical (summer 2017) and Greenville Civic Ballet.

JOHN MARUCA (Sound Designer) is a sound and video designer who develops engaging audio and visual environments for live theater and video productions. He has provided designs for more than 50 productions for theaters throughout eastern North Carolina. In addition to his role as designer, John also teaches sound design, most recently celebrating his 7th year as part of Raleigh Little Theatre’s Teens Back Stage summer program. John has a background in music and electronics and is currently building an electronic music lab.

JENNY MITCHELL (Costume Designer) is a Costume Designer here at Raleigh Little Theatre. She is thankful to have such a dedicated group of volunteers and co-workers to work with on this, and every, production. Her most recent credits include: James and the Giant Peach, Charlotte’s Web, Batboy, Mothers and Sons and One Man Two Guvnors, and Beanstalk: The Musical.

CHARLES PHANEUF (Executive Director) is a Raleigh native who returned to the area and to RLT in 2012. He was previously Managing Director of Joe’s Movement Emporium, a multi-disciplinary performing arts center located outside of Washington, DC, and Associate Managing Director at Shakespeare Theatre Company during the expansion into the Harman Center for the Arts. Charles is a founding member of the Capital Fringe Festival and Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra, both in Washington. He is a UNC-Chapel Hill alumni, President-Elect of the Friends of the Gregg at NCSU, and is serving on the Dix Park Master Plan Advisory Committee. Charles was named “40 Under 40” by the Triangle Business Journal in 2014, and Tar Heel of the Week by the News and Observer in 2018.

X RALEIGH LITTLE THEATRE

PRODUCTION STAFF BIOGRAPHIESMIYUKI SU (Scenic Designer) is a Meredith College graduate with a BA in theatre. She has been professionally designing and/or painting scenery on and off in the triangle for 17 years. With 2 little ones at home now, she is grateful for her family’s support that enables her to take on creative opportunities. Recent credits include: The Whipping Man (Raleigh Little Theatre), Annapurna-scenic design (Honest Pint), An Experiment with an Air Pump-scenic painter (Duke Theatre Studies), The Emotions of Normal People-scenic design (Little Green Pig Theatrical Concern).

PATRICK TORRES (Artistic Director, Director) has been a professional director and educator for over 15 years. Prior to joining Raleigh Little Theatre, he served as a Directing Fellow at the Shakespeare Theatre Company, Associate Artistic Director of Young Playwrights’ Theater (YPT), and Director of Middle and High School Programs at Creative Action. His work as a freelance director has been seen at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The Southwest Shakespeare Festival, Round House Theatre, The Source Festival, and the Hangar Theatre, among others. He served as the Assistant Director for The Glass Menagerie starring Sally Field at the Kennedy Center through an award given by the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers. In 2003, he was selected as a Drama League Directing Fellow and in 2005 was named a Young leader of Color by the Theatre Communications Group. As an educator, he developed the After-School Playwriting Program for YPT which won the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award from First Lady Michelle Obama in 2010. Patrick has a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Southern Mississippi. He would like to thank his wife and family for their support.

TARA NICOLE WILLIAMS (Fight Choreographer) is a local actor, teacher, and fight choreographer who has spent the last 8 years training with the Society of American Fight Directors. Previous Raleigh Little Theatre credit: Don’t Dress for Dinner (Suzette). Recent choreography credits: The Miracle Worker (Seed Art Share), She Kills Monsters (Meredith College), Pippin (NC Theatre Conservatory). Thank you to Patrick, Heather, Jeff, and the Raleigh Combat Artists for being a constant source of learning and friendship!

BARBARA WITHERWAX (Assistant Stage Manager) has been in love with Raleigh Little Theatre since 2014. She began by helping with set builds and then joined backstage running crews for deck, spot op, light board & sound cues. Barbara has served as Crew Chief for Light, Sound, and Deck and as ASM.
