A BRIEF HISTORYJ O N E S B R O T H E R S

In the 1880’s, Michael K. Jones founded M.K. Jones Furniture

in Savannah, GA and opened 13 locations, including one store

located off East Main Street with brothers W. Greider Jones and

Robert L. Jones.

1880

Michael K. Jones left the furniture chain to 13 brothers and sisters; Robert L. Jones split off from his siblings and started his own company, Standard Furniture Co.

1910

Robert L. Jones developed the Mediterranean Revival structure on Hogan Street for Standard

Furniture Co.

1926

M.K. Jones Furniture and Standard Furniture Co. merged as Jones Brother’s Furniture and operated out of the same Hogan Street

building.

1954

After decades of success in downtown, the owners relocated the business to the suburbs and

later closed its doors.

1987

Ace Jax proposes to reposition the Jones Brother’s Furniture and adjacent Western Union buildings to a mixed-use redevelopment.
