Project Need

‘’The problem is so huge that you don’t know where to tackle it from. Our juvenile football is dying. There hasn’t been colts football close to two years now which is really bad.

‘’ The juvenile football is our own, so that is where we need to focus on. Some of us had the opportunity to play from colts football to the Premier League. During our time the colts football was well organized, so before a players joins a Premier League Club he is matured.’’ Source: Ghana and Ljungskile SK midfielder, Yussif Alhassan Chibsah - Luv FM

In the late 80s and early 90s, our youthful sides were the luminaries in the football world-the Black Starlets. When the world under 17 tournaments was invented in the mid 80s, it was a breeding ground for future players. Tournaments like 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997 or New zealand 1999 ring alarms to the average Ghanaian fan. The successful nature of these tournaments was based on the availability of ready-made youthful products from the colts systems. Need I mention names? Bashiru Gambo, Awudu Issaka, Tutu Skele, Owusu Afiriyie, or even Micheal Essien. The colts system was structured from one stage to the other, thus U-12 to U-15 and U-17. Football thrives on continuity. We simply cannot build a successful future in the football world if the basis is not well built.

Our winning squad of 1991 were all products of colts football. Star names like Awudu Issaka, Dada Don bortey, Ishmael Addo, and the serial killer Charles Asampong Taylor, all graduated from different colts clubs across the nation. When last have we seen a striker producing 25 goals a season? The last Ghanaian player to score four goals in our league is sadat Bukari because he was very prolific at the youthful stages. Unplayable. I can remember 22 at most. The reasons could be traced to lack of basic rudiments in the striking roles. If the colts were to be in existence, from the Under -12 through to the Under- 17, they might have learnt the different roles of an attacking player in modern football.

Need For Junior “Pele” Tournament

We at Cup foundation Ghana believe that, the name “Pele” must not be forgotten in the world of soccer. Thus the spirit behind this name must be resurrected to entice our children and the global community in the quest for Africa soccer development.

Thus Cup foundation Ghana proposes the introduction of Junior Pele tournament 2018. To support the neglected Talented Africa Soccer Child in his struggle for career success.

Historical Profile Of the name “Pele”

Edson Arantes do Nascimento (Brazilian Portuguese: [ˈɛtsõ (w)ɐˈɾɐ̃tʃiz du nɐsiˈmẽtu]; born 23 October 1940), known as Pelé(Brazilian Portuguese: [pe̞ˈlɛ]), is a retired Brazilian professional footballer who played as a forward. He is widely regarded as the greatest football player of all time. In 1999, he was voted World Player of the Century by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS). That same year, Pelé was elected Athlete of the Century by the International Olympic Committee. According to the IFFHS, Pelé is the most successful league goal-scorer in the world, scoring 1281 goals in 1363 games, which included unofficial friendlies and tour games. During his playing days, Pelé was for a period the best-paid athlete in the world.

Pelé began playing for Santos at age 15 and the Brazil national football team at 16. During his international career, he won three FIFA World Cups: 1958, 1962 and 1970, being the only player ever to do so. Pelé is the all-time leading goalscorer for Brazil with 77 goals in 92 games. At club level he is also the record goalscorer for Santos, and led them to the 1962 and 1963 Copa Libertadores. Pelé's "electrifying play and penchant for spectacular goals" made him a star around the world, and his club team Santos toured internationally in order to take full advantage of his popularity. Since retiring in

Abedi Pele was one of the pioneers of African football in Europe. Abedi Pele was one of the first great African players to make an impact on European club football. He played for teams in Switzerland, Germany, Italy and most famously France where he was very instrumental in Marseille's prominence in the European Champions League during the early 1990s. Amongst his international accolades, he was often included in FIFA "All-Star" selections and captained the African All-Stars in their victory over their European counterparts in the Meridian Cup of 1997.

He left Ghana after the 1982 African Cup of Nations to join Al Sadd in Qatar for a transfer fee of $1,000.[5] After a short spell with FFC Zürich in Switzerland he returned to Ghana but, he joined AS Dragons FC de l'Ouémé of Benin. He later return to Ghana and play for Real Tamale United for a season. He started his career in Europe with French association football club Chamois Niort, subsequently joining Montpellier and Lille before transferring to Olympique Marseille. He later joined Lyon. He also played for Torino of Italy and finally rounded out his European career with 1860 München.

Abedi Pele went on to sign a two-year contract with Al Ain Club in the United Arab Emirates and was nominated one of the best foreign players to play in the UAE league.

He was a captain and was one of the first African football players to earn a top placing in FIFA World Player of the Year voting in 1991 and 1992. He is arguably Africa's most decorated and honoured football player ever, winning the France Football Magazine African Player of the Year Award three times, was the inaugural winner of the BBC African Sports Star of the Year in 1992, and the corresponding Confederation of African Football award twice. He was also awarded the golden ball award for being the best player at the 1992 African Cup of Nations, and was the "man of the match" in Marseille's historic European Champions League final win over Milan in 1993.

Abedi Pele played for Ghana 73 times and is considered the greatest football player in his country's
