1. IntroductionPrimary and secondary data are the ultimate tool to attempt the objectives of a study.

Regarding to the study, The Potentials And Constraints Of Tourism In Jaffna District: A

Study Based On Post-war Scenario the data is to be collected both via primary and

secondary sources. But, compared to secondary sources primary sources have been suggested

to use extremely. The reasons why I have preferred primary sources were; Lack of secondary

resources related to the study and Tourism was not a significant field before post-war were

the reasons to prefer primary sources to this study.

Questionnaire survey is one of the data collection methods which is used to collect

data from secondary sources. The questionnaire is a research instrument consisting of a series

of questions and other prompts for the purpose of gathering information from respondents

which was invented by Sir Francis Galton (Wikipedia, 2012).

The questionnaire is used, both for the purpose of collecting secondary data from

various kinds of samples and to attempt the objectives of this study.

2. Objectives of the Study

1. To find out the potentials of the peninsulas tourism under the following scenarios.

i. Pre-war

ii. War

iii. Post-war

2. To highlight the barriers of the tourism sector in Jaffna district at the post-warsituation.

3. To determine specific recommendations to the government, local community andtourists to enhance the tourism in a sustainable manner of Jaffna district.

3. SamplesBased on the above objectives this study is to be practiced in Jaffna district with the

support of selected samples.

80 samples have to be selected under the technique of Cluster sampling and those

questionnaires have to be issued to the following categories; International tourists, Out of

district tourists, Inner district tourists and Local Residents. Questionnaire was prepared under

2 main themes. One is visitors to Jaffna district and the other one is civilians from Jaffna

district. Each 20 samples have to be selected from the classifications of International tourists,

Out of district tourists, Inner district tourists and Local residents for the questionnaire survey.

3. Language of the QuestionnairesQuestionnaires were drafted in English and translated into Sinhala and Tamil and

delivered to the individuals in their local language. In order, as far as possible, to avoid

misunderstanding of the questions, the researchers representatives stayed with the

respondents while they were completing the questionnaire.
