BACKGROUND

An industrial engineer, who is comprehend in designing and developing a

about the product that will be introduced to the audience. Therefore, many

strategies or techniques in delivering the information should be known or

mastered by an industrial engineer, in order to deliver the information about the

product to the audience well. Considering the importance of communication,

many strategies were introduced by the expert, and one of them is “Elevator

Pitch“.

Along with the increasing of competitions among companies, industrial

engineers, project managers, or any others, have to be able to deliver the

information or ideas about the product, service, or organization, to the potential

customer or client briefly and well in order to convince the potential customers or

clients to choose their product or company. Potential customers or clients do not

have much time to listen to their ideas or speech, so it has to be brief. Not only

brief, but also right. Information that is delivered in their speech has to be the core

value of the product, service, or company. Elevator Pitch or Elevator Speech or

Elevator Statement, a short summary that is used to quickly, simply, define a

product, service, or organization and its value proposition, could be an effective

strategy to get the attention from potential customer or client.

In order to hone the skill in creating and implementing the elevator pitch,

Himpunan Mahasiswa Teknik Industri (HMTI) Universitas Gadjah Mada will

held the “Elevator Pitch Competition 2012”, that will be participated by the

undergraduate students from all universities in Indonesia. Futhermore, this

competition hopefully could be the pioneer of national elevator pitch competition

in Indonesia and will be held continually in the following years.
