Though there is huge traffi c during peak hours, Azaiba has access to the Sultan Qaboos Highway and is a 15 minute drive from Al Khuwair, 25
minutes to Qurum and Seeb, and 30 minutes to Ruwi.
Azaiba is full of grocery stores, fi tness centres, beauty salons,
schools, laundry shops, and is just across the highway from the malls
and Lulu Hypermarket.
There isn’t a lot of nightlife or restaurants in the area, so you’ll fi nd more families with children,
both Omanis and expatriates, than bachelors.
Though it is not the most inexpen-sive of Muscat neighbourhoods,
you will often fi nd larger villas and fl ats, many of which feature
outdoor space, for the same price as new construction in other posh
areas like MQ or Qurum.
Azaiba features one of the best public beaches in Oman and some
of the villas and fl ats even enjoy sea views or are a walkable distance
from the ocean.

A zaiba is a coastal neighbourhood in Wilay-at Baushar, which is just north of Wilayat Muttrah and south Wilayat Seeb. Just south of Seeb International Airport, this neighbourhood is wedged between the Sea
of Oman and the Sultan Qaboos freeway, which sepa-rates Azaiba from Ghubra, which is on its west side. We spoke to resident Nicole Bradbury Becx, a PR profes-sional who resides on Road 4824 behind Al Fair on 18th November Street, to fi nd out why she chose her hood.
We moved into our house in Azaiba in 2012. At the time the main things we were looking for were ample
space, a garden, a quiet area safe for our children, and easy access to the main roads so we could get to the offi ce in a reasonable amount of time. Azaiba is quiet, and we have nice respectful neighbours. The roads are wide, neat, and clean appearance with lots of gardens and trees. I feel safe when I’m out walk-ing the dogs or jogging. All adults we have met are friendly and respectful. Only some teenagers like to come and tease the dogs who then bark and become annoying for the whole community, and some teen-agers think it’s ‘cool’ to show off their loud annoying driving skills on quad bikes late at night, which is not
particularly nice and safe. Overall we are very happy in our neighbourhood. I love being close to amenities like Azaiba beach, the park, an Al Fair grocery store, our gym, and health clubs. In our complex we also love having a swimming pool, community centre, and security system. The rent is very steep and takes a large chunk of the budget, but still worth it for the lifestyle we enjoy there. —[email protected]
