Minute for Mission: PW Thank Offering Ann Van Horn (8:30); Ebie Strauss (10:30)*CALL TO WORSHIP (responsive, from Psalm 90) Mary Malone
Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, before you formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to
everlasting, Thou art God.For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past. The years sweep us away as with a flood. Even our years are like grass that grows up while we sleep. In the morning
they flourish and grow only to wither by evening. For all our days pass away. Our years are like a tale that is told.Teach us, Eternal God, to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.
•*PRAYER OF THE DAY †•*HYMN 363 “Rejoice, the Lord Is King!” Darwall’s 148th•CALL TO CONFESSION
Your love, O God, is a refiner’s fire. The bellows raise its flames to a brightness that dims the sun. All that is within us that would harm our neighbors, your world, and us, cries out in fear before that fire, knowing your love only as a burning wrath. But we submit ourselves to your love, longing, yearning, for you utterly to burn from us all that is unworthy. Thus we confess, and thus we may know your fire to be pure love.
•CONFESSION OF SIN (unison) The beauty of your holiness speaks to our inner hearts. The small fingers of your Spirit work their way into the cracks
in our hardened shells. We long to yield to you. And yet we do resist. We know you wish only to fulfill in us that image in which you made us, the image and likeness of your Son, our Lord, Jesus. We know this, and we have no doubt that this change would bless us and all we know. But we fear yielding to you, because we fear how much this yielding will cost. Enter into the secret places of our hearts, slip past the sentries we have posted, and calm our fears and anxieties, that we may know in full that love we have experienced in part. Amen.
SILENT REFLECTIONKYRIE Lord, have mercy upon us; Christ, have mercy upon us; Lord, have mercy upon us. Blackmon•ASSURANCE OF PARDON
God’s mercy always meets us where we are. Of this we can be assured. But God’s love is never content to leave us where God found us. This is the good news. In the name of Jesus Christ, I assure you, our sin is forgiven. His path opens before us.
