PROMOTIONAL POSTER CONSTRUCTION…

Page 2: Promo poster Construction

The first step was to select the image we wanted to use for our promotional poster and open it on to Adobe Photoshop. Having done this we used the pen tool which allowed us to select the teddy bear precisely without ruining the edges, once we had selected the teddy bear we inverse selected the image so that the background would now be selected. Now that the background had been selected we could make adjustments to it, we then desaturated the background resulting in a construction of the Sin City effect. The Sin City effects allowed us to keep the object of significance in the colour while the background remained black and white, we felt using the Sin City effective was effective as it caused the teddy to stand out, it was also as though it represented the past and the present, furthermore because it was a gift from the artist boyfriend it was as though it suggested that he was the only thing that brought colour in to the artists life emphasising her love for him and therefore portraying elements within our video.

The next step involved adding the album name and website, for this we used the same font we had used on the digipak in order to keep a constant continuity and create strong brand identity.

We then searched on the internet for a picture of a plant as we felt we could use it to depict the growth and strength of the artist love for her boyfriend, furthermore we felt it suggest that the flower was like the artists boyfriend who provided her with oxygen and kept her alive metaphorically. We needed to remove the background for the image and therefore opened it on Photoshop where we selected the background and used the magic wand tool to erase the background. As well as portraying the artist’s relationship with her lover we wanted to portray the artist’s innocence and how what she was doing did not make her bad as some people would believe because of their cultural views. We therefore coloured the plant white in order to portray this as white is a colour which we found that through research depicts innocence. To colour the plant white we inverse selected the image so the plant would be selected and then used the paint bucket tool to colour it white.

We then placed the plant on to the promotional poster behind the album name. When placing the plant we felt that the white font for the Album name blended in too much with the plant and therefore decided to colour it black as black text would contrast well in front of the white plant. Also we coloured the white dots in the teddies eyes black using the brush tool as we felt the white dots caused the product to look slightly unprofessional, furthermore we felt that having the eyes fully black would represent the tribulation and anguish the artist within our video experiences as black is a colour which represents both of these feelings.

I and Sundas felt that having the plant white caused the attention to be drawn away from the teddy . We therefore changed it to light grey using the hue saturation tool in order to prevent this. Furthermore we added the release date as well as text stating “ featuring No.1 hit sensation”, we felt adding “ Featuring number one hit sensation” would allow the audience to be aware of the success of the artist which in turn could cause people who didn’t listen to the songs to listen to them.

We then added the dark strokes effect to the background. We felt doing this helped us to construct the atmosphere we wanted to create better as it added shadows which portray the tribulation and pain the artist experiences within the video. Here is what the cover looked like after adding the effect…

We then added the artist’s name which has now become a trademark for the artist and our ancillary task as we have used it on the digipak as well as the promotional poster. To get this font we went on to the site Dafont.com, after selecting the font we wanted to use we print screened the page and pasted the print screen on to PowerPoint. On PowerPoint we cropped the font from the print screen and saved it as an image so we could open it on to Photoshop and place it on to our cover. On Photoshop we firstly removed the background from the font using the magic wand tool, we also changed the colour of the font to white. Having done this we overlapped it on to the original poster. Furthermore we added the actual CD cover as we felt it would attract the audience due to the intriguing image on the front cover. Furthermore we felt doing this would make it easier for people to identify our CD if they went out to buy it from stores as they would know what to look for.

WE THEN CHANGED THE COLOUR OF THE FONT TO WHITE

Now we have added quotes from well-known institutions as these will entice the audience and work as a marketing strategy as people will believe these quotes. Furthermore we have wrote pre order on iTunes as we felt this was an important convention considering the power of the internet and how common buying products online is nowadays. In order to cause the poster to look more genuine we got the actual iTunes logo from the internet which we opened on to Adobe Photoshop and removed the background from using the magic wand tool. Having done this we overlapped the logo on to the actual poster and added next to it when it would be available on iTunes using a similar font and the same colour as the iTunes. Also at this point we realised we had made a mistake by writing out now on and instead changed it to available on as this made more sense.

On other promotional posters we found that company quotes usually have star ratings next to them, we therefore decided to incorporate this on to our poster. We did this by getting a star of the internet which we edited on Photoshop by colouring it black (as it was white) using the paint bucket tool. Once we had edited the star we overlapped it on to the promotional poster, however we needed more than one star and therefore duplicated the star several times and finally placed stars above the quotes.

HERE IS THE IMAGE WE GOT FROM THE INTERNET AND OPENED ON TO PHOTOSHOP

WE THEN REMOVED THE BACKGROUND AND COLOURED THE STAR BLACK, NOW WE HAD A STAR WHICH WE COULD DUPLICATE.

HERE ARE THE STARS WE PLACED ABOVE THE COMPANY QUOTES.
