Promo 5 ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’ Characters Joanne Lars Location Kitchen of the actress who is also a friend of mine TV studio - James Watt Campus Themes Psychological thriller - suspense building towards Joanne as the camera approaches her, questioning what she is doing Surreal horror - As a flash back, it is rather disorientating Concept Set when Christopher was a little boy, living at the farm when he was younger, mother is violently butchering some meat - a little versatile. The camera is younger Christopher, he approaches from behind Joanne when Joanne turns around revealing a dark side to her, almost demon like - providing a hint as to why Christopher might be ‘unhinged’. Joanne has blood on her hands, and some across her face, she holds up the knife as though she is going to stab someone and says: “Go to your bedroom Christopher!” Present day Christopher ‘wakes up’ alarmed, as though he has just dreamt about that moment, then his his glare turns to anguish, the ‘distorted' flash back provides background reasoning and possible motive for Christopher, as though he is living his life in distaste of his mother (this promo is an insight into that truth). Voice over of Christopher responding to his ‘then mother’: “But mother, I can’t sleep” - suggesting that that maybe because of her and his ‘hobby’, as a reason why he can’t sleep. However, how he replies also suggests that Christopher is trying to constantly battle with her (possible pay-back), even though she is dead. Furthermore, it also suggests, coyly, the murder that is to come for viewers who would watch the show, it’s like a ‘welcome’ from the main protagonist to the audience - an indirect introduction before ‘show time’. Costume & Make Up Notes Joanne wears late 80s styled jeans and jumper, socks, neutral make up, hair down, blood across the face and on hands Props & Set Notes Raw bloody meat Big butchers knife - blood on the blade Radio Visual Notes Low angled shot looking up at Joanne, camera is younger Christopher - getting closer, dolly Low saturated as it is a flash back styled promo Audio Notes An erotic and creepy version of Tiffany’s ‘I think we’re alone now’, when Joanne turns the radio up, it gets louder Nursery rhyme chiming/version Sound bed of Christopher’s ‘sound’ Diegetic audio from Joanne’s dialogue Voice over of Christopher
