PROMATECT® 50 CEMENT BOUND MATRIX BOARD
PROMATECT® 50 is Promat’s matrix technology of binding organic materials and inorganic minerals within a calculated mineral matrix to form a monolithic core. Known as a Cement Bound Matrix (CBM) board, this low energy environmentally friendly manufacturing process makes excellent boards that o er not only superior fi re resistance but also exemplary physical strength, robustness and performance.
All below properties are mean values given for information and guidance only. If certain properties are critical for a particular application, it is advisable to consult Promat. PROMATECT® 50 is manufactured under a quality management system certifi ed in accordance with ISO 9001: 2008.

PROMATECT® 50 is o -white in colour and has one smooth surface. Because of the nature of CBM board Level 4 fi nish may not be achievable consistently without additional care. This must be taken in to account when costing out work. The painting specifi cation must always be followed closely and must be asked for and studied before any painting occurs. If a Level 5 fi nish is required or boards will be a ected by glancing light, then specifi ers must be aware that a high level of expertise will be required when skim coating the whole surface of board (similar to that required by all other board products for this level of fi nish).
PROMATECT® 50 is resistant to the e ects of moisture and will not physically deteriorate when used in damp or humid conditions. Performance characteristics are not degraded by moisture.
Application
• Steel/timber stud and solid/frameless partitions• Self-supporting ceilings, suspended ceilings• Membrane ceilings, timber fl oor protection• Cladding to steel ducts• M&E services enclosure, riser pipes enclosure
Health and safety
When machining the PROMATECT® 50 product, airborne dust may be released, which may be hazardous to health. Do not inhale the dust. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Use dust extraction equipment. Respect regulatory occupational exposure limits for tota inhalable and respirable dust. A health and safety data sheet is available from Promat and, as with any other material, should be read before working with the product.
PROMATECT® 50 product is not classifi ed as a dangerous substance so no special provisions are required regarding the transportation and the disposal of the product to landfi ll. The product can be placed in on-site rubbish skips with other general building waste which should then be disposed by a registered contractor in the appropriate and approved manner.

14.30PROMATECT® 50 SELF-SUPPORTING MEMBRANE CEILINGSARCHITECTURAL SPECIFICATIONS
The following are standard architectural specifi cations for self-supporting membrane ceiling systems using PROMATECT® 50. The designer must determine the suitability of the design to the application and requirements before undertaking or constructing any works relating to the specifi cations and where in doubt should obtain the advice of a suitably qualifi ed engineer.
Fire attack from below / non loadbearing ceiling
Up to 30 minute fi re resistance, integrity and insulation in accordance with the criteria of BS 476: Part 22: 1987; non loadbearing.
Acoustic performance
The partition system shall have a Weighted Sound Reduction Index of Rw 41dB.
Supporting structure
Care should be taken that any structural element by which the membrane ceiling system is supported, e.g. a beam, fl oor or wall, has a fi re resistance equal to or greater than 30 minutes and is capable of supporting the system for the required fi re resistance.
Lining boards
Two layers of 12mm thick PROMATECT® 50 CBM boards, as manufactured by Promat International (Asia Pacifi c) Ltd, on both sides. All joints to be coincident with steel framing. Standard board dimension 2440mm x 1220mm x 12mm thick.
Fixing
Perimeter galvanised steel channels will be fastened to the wall with M10 metal anchors at 500mm maximum centres. Main steel joists spanning across the wall will be positioned and adequately fi xed at 610mm nominal intervals. Cross channels, where applicable, will be positioned at nominal 610mm centres between the main joists. Steel framework components will be followed.
Tests and standards
The complete system along with the material and framing is tested in accordance with BS 476: Part 22: 1987.
Jointing
Control joints are recommended for ceiling dimension exceeding 10m in any direction.Plain butt joints between machined edges of boards. (1)
Joints fi lled in preparation for painting. (2)
Joints fi lled and taped in preparation for decoration. (3)
Follow-on trades
Surface of boards to be prepared for painting/plastering/tiling(4) in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.
NOTES:• (1), (2), (3), (4) delete as appropriate.• All perimeter gaps caulked with PROMASEAL®-A Acrylic Sealant.
