Problem description
The goal is:to reduce engineering and transaction costs for procurement and sales
In order to achieve this goal we need:• International standards as well as processes with standardized
workflows (operational procedures).
PROLIST is an organization involved with process control equipment which has been working on and will continue to work on the standards required.
What we achieve are standardized international expressions (properties) which create a "common technological and commercial language".
We create standardized workflows through XML schema and use of the PROLIST database.

PROLIST How far are we from the goal?
• A finding from an international study: 97.5 percent of invoices worldwide are handled manually, i.e. only 2.5 percent electronically.
• This is only a small part of the whole process "from the inquiry via the purchase order to payment of the invoice".
• It is reasonable to conclude that the volume of technical documentation being prepared manually reaches a similar level.
• We see the same optimization potential in the individual steps of the engineering process.

Introduction of PROLIST
Organization The Project Group “Lists of Properties”
(PROLIST) is a nonprofit organization. The Project Group is to complete its work
within 5 years (end of 2008), after which it will be dissolved.
Project Group Aims
• Creating and updating characteristics and lists of properties (LOPs) for electrical and process control devices,
• Making LOPs immediately available to manufacturers and users via NAMUR Recommendation (NE 100),
• Internationalization of LOPs through an IEC standard,
• Reduction in the internal and external transaction and engineering costs.

NE 100
The results of PROLIST working groups are published in the NAMUR Recommendation NE 100.
• Version 2.0 (currently valid) contains Lists of Properties (LOPs) for 62 device types
– Measuring instruments (50): pressure, flow, level, temperature, and density,
– Electrical motors (2), and– Actuators (10).
• Version 3.0 has been prepared. It will be published in August 2006 and will contain Lists of Properties for about 100 device types. Additionally to Version 2.0, there will be LOPs for
– Signal adjustment devices (37),– LV switchgear (1), and– Actuators in the form of composite devices (5).– The Data Model will be widened by polymorphism and flexible use of units.

PROLIST Status of work on international standardization
• A New Work Item Proposal (NWIP) based on NE 100 version 2.0 was
submitted in March 2005 to the German Standardization Commission for
Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies (DKE). DKE handed it over
to IEC.
• IEC circulated the document as 65B/555/NP for consultation purposes up to
July 8, 2005.
• The vote was very much in favor of the NWIP:
– Of the 24 countries entitled to vote, 21 voted for the proposal,
– 10 countries have delegated a person to work on the project in a working group,
which is to draw up a standard from the draft. Five countries would have been
needed.
• A new Working Group, WG11, has been established. There have been three
WG11 meetings to date.
• Committee drafts for parts 10 and 11 of IEC 61987 have been prepared and
should be published by the end of 2006.

International cooperation
• On October 26, 2005, ISA and PROLIST signed an amendment to the cooperation
agreement on involvement in the work of the “Lists of Properties” Project Group. In this
document both sides agreed to
– Integrate ISA SP20 Spec Sheets into PROLIST Lists of Properties,
– Create a joint property library, and
– Assist each other by submitting the joint properties and Lists of Properties to the international
standardization process (IEC).
• At a meeting held on May 5, 2006 with USPI-NL and PROLIST, there was a fruitful
discussion on ways of promoting cooperation between these two organizations. It was
agreed that responsibility for the description of process control equipment by means of
properties and LOPs would rest with PROLIST. Additionally, the following possibilities
were outlined for STEPlib and PROLIST objects:
– mapping of USPI-NL classes to PROLIST LOPs,
– mapping of properties.

BASF’s objectives
• Integration of NE 100 in the Rösberg CAE system (PRODOK) – creating a new module:– import and export of XML documents
– technical comparison of documents
• No structural changes in systems used
• BASF will use PROLIST specifications
• Structured electronic exchangeof technical data using XML schema
• 100-percent conformity with NE 100
• Data exchange- in engineering process: by e-mail (for the first step) - for ordering: SAP BANF (requisition note)
• Reaping the benefits!18.06.2004 9

PROLIST CAE system requirements set by Bayer Technology Services
• Bayer Technology Services has formulated its CAE system requirements for the first stage of NE 100 implementation:
– The CAE system should include the “Operating Parameters” as inquiry documents equivalent to the loop lists (PLT-Stellenblatt) used by Bayer, as well as the “Device Specifications”, which describe the devices used or to be used in the plant or system.
– The documents should be importable to and exportable from the CAE system in the form of XML transfer files.
– The data import should also include CAE-relevant data, such as terminal designations, as provided for in NE 100.
– It should be possible to compare the technical data of quotations sent by several different suppliers.
– The file import and export function would improve the quality of electronic data exchange, including exchange with ERP systems, such as that of SAP.
• Bayer Technology Services uses - especially for international projects - the CAE system SmartPlant Instrumentation of Intergraph.
• The same requirements apply to other process control CAE systems used in the Bayer Group.

PROLIST Preparations at Bayer Technology Services
• Bayer Technology Services is preparing for implementation of the NE 100 workflow.
• The costs of completing the required infrastructure are being estimated.
• After the infrastructure has been prepared, Bayer Technology Services plans to start using the NE 100 workflow in a planning process control project for a plant with about 100 loops.

Summary
• The implementation of the contents of NE 100 using Lists of Properties generates a win-win situation for both suppliers and users (customers) of process control equipment.
• The goal is to reduce internal and external transactions and engineering costs.
• PROLIST supports the cost savings which can be achieved using a database that contains international standardized properties and Lists of Properties. This database is being created based on a data model enabling the application of additional features, e.g. views (filter functions).
• Version 3.0 of NE 100 will cover about 90-95 percent of the process control device types installed in a chemical (industrial) plant.
• Bayer Technology Services and other PROLIST Members are currently preparing for the operational use of the LOP technology.
