    Material Requirements Planning (MRP)

    Problem Description

    Material requirement planning (MRP) is a key element in managing resources in a

    manufacturing environment. MRP systems ere developed to !elp companies manage

    dependent demand inventory and sc!edule replenis!ment orders. MRP systems !ave

    proven to "e "eneficial to many companies.

    #!e aim of t!is pro$ect is to "uild a support system t!at ould generate material

    requirements plans for a manufacturing company. #!is support system s!ould "e "uild using

    t!e principles of MRP systems. %e use a simple e&ample to s!o !o MRP systems ork'

    !oever to learn more a"out t!ese systems e refer t!e students to ra$eski and Rit*man

    (2++2) and ,a!mias (2+++).

    MRP System

    -n MRP system translates t!e master production sc!edule (MPS) "ill of materials (/M)and inventory records into a material requirement plan t!at specifies t!e replenis!ment

    sc!edules of all t!e su"assem"lies components and ra materials needed for t!e final

    product. %e illustrate t!e inputs of t!e system and t!e final MRP plans using an e&ample.

    %e consider a manufacturing company t!at produces c!airs. %e present t!e /M MPS

    and MRP plans for t!e ladder0"ack c!airs produced "y t!is company (ra$eski and

    Rit*man 2++2).

    MPS presents t!e lot si*e and due date for t!e final products.
