Do you feel like it’s luck the decides if you get a “good” project sponsor?
![Page 3: Project sponsor choices](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030304/587a6b7e1a28ab8a2a8b6947/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
What if I could show you how to get yours to be where you need them to be?
![Page 4: Project sponsor choices](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030304/587a6b7e1a28ab8a2a8b6947/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Let’s look at 3 types of sponsors – they’re like the ones from the Goldilocks story
![Page 5: Project sponsor choices](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030304/587a6b7e1a28ab8a2a8b6947/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
One is too hard: “it’s a push, push, push world out there”
![Page 6: Project sponsor choices](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030304/587a6b7e1a28ab8a2a8b6947/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
They get what they want by using the burnt earth method – whatever it takes.
![Page 7: Project sponsor choices](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030304/587a6b7e1a28ab8a2a8b6947/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
And might ALWAYS be around; adding value by telling you what, how and when (sometimes why).
![Page 8: Project sponsor choices](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030304/587a6b7e1a28ab8a2a8b6947/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
And pray you don’t have an escalation take place…
![Page 9: Project sponsor choices](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030304/587a6b7e1a28ab8a2a8b6947/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
The next is the softy, aka the absentee landlord.
![Page 10: Project sponsor choices](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030304/587a6b7e1a28ab8a2a8b6947/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
They might have been assigned their role by not moving out of the way fast enough.
![Page 11: Project sponsor choices](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030304/587a6b7e1a28ab8a2a8b6947/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
They’re identified by never being around when you need them.
![Page 12: Project sponsor choices](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030304/587a6b7e1a28ab8a2a8b6947/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
If you do track them down, try getting a commitment out of them; hey, where’d he go?
![Page 13: Project sponsor choices](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030304/587a6b7e1a28ab8a2a8b6947/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Then there’s the project sponsor that’s just right.
![Page 14: Project sponsor choices](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030304/587a6b7e1a28ab8a2a8b6947/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
They’re involved early on, since it’s their project; but they engage you in clarifying roles, responsibilities and escalation paths.
![Page 15: Project sponsor choices](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030304/587a6b7e1a28ab8a2a8b6947/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
You know what they want and when they want it; communication is open and two-way.
![Page 16: Project sponsor choices](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030304/587a6b7e1a28ab8a2a8b6947/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
What made the difference and how do we get to just right?
![Page 17: Project sponsor choices](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030304/587a6b7e1a28ab8a2a8b6947/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
First, sponsorship isn’t an accidental role and project selection process makes sense
![Page 18: Project sponsor choices](https://reader031.fdocuments.net/reader031/viewer/2022030304/587a6b7e1a28ab8a2a8b6947/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
Second, the sponsor understands and practices the fundamentals of effective change management.

Third, you’re there to guide, and upwardly manage them to be what you need; using a RACI is a great first step.

Here’s to you having a happy ending to your Goldilocks story of making good choices!
