Background:

Kennscott Limited is a small customer driven company managed by a cadre of highly skilled technical workers within the catering sector. They provide catering and ship chandelling services for many companies within the energy sector of Trinidad and Tobago. Kennscott Limited. A relatively new player in our countrys thriving energy sector, KENNSCOTT Ltd became fully operational in June 2008, and has already made its mark as a dependable, ethical, efficient and professional business enterprise partner to several leading energy companies, both locally and internationally.

Project Research Problem

Project Research Problem Many organizations have become cognizant to establishing supply chain management as an essential function in todays business world. It is with this growing phenomenon that establishes logistics and supply chain management as a separate function of business practices, companies are definitely giving these business function respect as they have realized that these strategic business units are the underlying mechanisms to increase their competitive advantage.

With this being stated, it is essential that Private Companies, Limited Liabilities and multi-national organization to gain insight on proper Information Technology solutions to fuel their business. The concept of Supply Chain Management simply encapsulated, states the active management of supply chain activities to maximize customer value and achieve a sustainable competitive advantage.

At Kennscott Limited there is little management of Supply Chain activities, and resources are limited to utilizing accounting software for management of receivables and issues of stock.

Currently this company is trading at a regional level and it has become essential that proper supply chain management be emphasize so that supplies can ultimately reach off-shore, on-shore and business functions on-time. Therefore systems must be in placed to facilitate this new strategic business unit that must arise for proper coordination of Kennscott Limited Operations. This proposed system will enhance Kennscott Limited Production line, distribution and upstream supply chain of various suppliers, both local and regional.

2.Focus of the Study

Purpose of Study

To provide Kennscott Limited with a solution to Supply Chain Management through modern day information technologies and by integrating the great enabler the internet to facilitate increased communication and robustness that will then become a central enterprise wide system for future supply chain and business functional purposes.

Key Areas of Investigation will be;

The entire operation of the Kennscott Limited inclusive of Operations Locally and Regionally

The current Procurement and Supply Chain Management strategy utilized by Kennscott Limited

Supply Chain Management Function in all Offices

Effects of Implementation of an Enterprise Supply Chain Solution

Research Questions:

1. How is Supply Chain Management Activities practiced in Kennscott Limited Regional and Local operations?

2. What factors, processes or tools are essential to managed regional supply chains?

3. What are Kennscott Strengths and Weaknesses in their current logistics and supply chain strategy?

4. How can Kennscott utilize different approaches and tools to effectively manage their supply chain?

5. How would the emerging strategy and solution to Kennscott Limited Supply Chain Management be planed and implement?

Significance of the Project

Kennscott Limited will benefit from understanding the importance of Supply Chain Management as a strategic business function within their organisation; they will also gain and understanding of the mechanisms and tools that are used to facilitate management of their supply chain. A strategy will be developed based on implementing an Information technology solution that will facilitate communication and visibility throughout their enterprise thereby allowing them to gain competitive advantage.

3. Project Related Literature Summary

This project will cover supply chain and information technology development, it will seek to review modern day mechanisms utilized by similar companies that have done cross-over information technology solutions to facilitate their supply chain and logistical movement. 4. Planned Methodology

The first method that will be instituted is to review all relevant literature and theoretical findings of Information Technological developments within supply chain management, this approach will be done through a case research method, emphasis will be placed on retrieval of information on companies that were initiating new techniques and solutions for Supply Chain Management.

This will be followed by a review of Kennscott Limited current supply chain management practices through internal documentation made available through kennscott limited of processes from initial request for quotation to delivery of final product, it is therefore essential to gain secondary data as it provides a legacy framework of an encapsulation of kennscott Limited Operations. This data will be retrieved through purchase orders, client files, request for quotation, invoices and job forms, all of these forms will provide an accurate picture of kennscott requirements for an information technological supply chain management solution, since this data are secondary data that are would be provided through approval of the current managing director Mr Kenneth Prescott .

To gain insight for requirements for development it is essential that the managing director and key stakeholders of this proposed solution be included in discussions for potential improvement for the future, therefore interviews will be done to gain primary data.

After this encapsulation of various research methods are instituted, evaluation of improvement initiatives will be implemented through theoretical evaluations to the case of Kennscott Limited impact of Information Technology as it relates to Supply Chain Management.
