PROJECT PROFILE Martin Kelly Centre Sector: Refurbishment Location: Wembley, WA Services: Electrical, Mechanical & Hydraulics Completion: November 2017 Awards: 2018 Master Builders-Bankwest Excellence in Construction Awards: Best Historic Restoration or Renovation under 1.5M 2018 WA Heritage Awards - Judges’ Choice Description: Work was undertaken to restore the Martin Kelly Centre which was originally built in 1893 as a school house and is recognized by the Heritage Council of WA. The works required significant care to preserve and reconstruct the building structure while trying to incorporate modern building services. The air conditioning included underfloor fan coil units, duct work and diffusion where a separate external compound was provided for the condensing units. Feature columns were built to facilitate the return air path at the required level. Architectural pendant lighting with intelligent controls were selected for conference facilities and simulated using 3D modelling. Electrical distribution, communications, fire detection and hydraulic services were closely coordinated with the architect throughout the building.
