The Project

This specially-designed sports

facility is co-owned by the City

of Toronto and the University of

Toronto, Scarborough and offers

programs for youth and adults.

The 28,985 sq. m. (312,000 sq. ft.)

facility has two Olympic-sized

10-lane swimming pools, a

25 metre diving tank with diving

platforms and spring boards, four

gymnasiums, a 200 metre indoor

track, a two-story fitness centre, a

12.5 m. (41 ft.) high climbing wall

and four teaching studios. The

project included the installation of

a new IKO Mod Bit Roofing System

with an IKO TP-250-Cap Sheet on

three roofs for the facility.

The ChallengeIKO was challenged with delivering a highly resilient roofing membrane and cap sheet. As a sports facility, the varying temperatures and humidity in the building required a roofing system that could effectively handle these fluctuations. The building owner was looking for an economical but tough system alternative. The choice was two layers of mod bit membrane, implementing both a base and cap sheet. The SolutionAn IKO Torchflex™ Roofing System was selected for this project as a dependable system with an established track record of reliability. Mod bit continues to be a prominent roof membrane choice throughout the Ontario province. With a vapour retarder, insulation and a cover board, this Torchflex system offers extra strength and protection for this important facility.
