MD 210 at Kerby Hill Road/ Livingston Road Interchange Project MARYLAND 210 PROJECT BACKGROUND The Maryland Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) State Highway Administration (SHA) is making improvements along MD 210 (Indian Head Highway) from south of I-495/I-95 to north of Palmer Road in Prince George’s County Maryland. The project will replace the existing at-grade intersection of Kerby Hill Road/Livingston Road at MD 210 with a grade-separated interchange and access ramps. The MD 210 corridor is one of many highways people use to travel around the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Northern Virginia areas. This project will not only improve safety and mobility, but also help alleviate current and future travel congestion. LOOKING FORWARD MDOT SHA is transitioning the monthly report into a new quarterly report that recaps work completed to date and provides a look ahead to upcoming project activities. These quarterly reports are being supplemented with weekly project updates. In 2018, MDOT SHA will detour all left turns at Kerby Hill Road/Livingston Road to allow construction of the interchange. Future updates will provide detour routes to guide users through the construction zone and keep the community aware of all construction activity. MAJOR SPRING 2017 ACTIVITIES During the spring, construction crews received permits and began utility relocations to accommodate new roadway configurations. The work completed included: Completion of sanitary sewer manholes and pipes at the Livingston Road intersection, along northbound MD 210; Completion of weld repairs for the gas line along the southbound side of MD 210, north of Wilson Bridge Drive; Installation of wire on utility poles by Comcast and Verizon, on the southbound service road; Construction of new drainage work along northbound MD 210; and Continuation of noise barrier construction along northbound MD 210. TRAFFIC PATTERN UPDATES This summer crews will continue ongoing construction activities including: Relocating gas line located near the right turn lane ramp at Wilson Bridge Drive and MD 210 southbound; Installing noise barrier walls on the northbound side of MD 210; Relocating the stream on southbound MD 210; and Completing PEPCO utility work at Kerby Hill and Livingston Roads. As summer construction continues along MD 210, traffic shifts will include single lane closures during non-rush hour periods, generally between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. PROJECT NEWSLETTER • SUMMER 2017

210 PROJECT BACKGROUNDThe Maryland Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) State Highway Administration (SHA) is making improvements along MD 210 (Indian Head Highway) from south of I-495/I-95 to north of Palmer Road in Prince George’s County Maryland. LOOKING FORWARDMDOT SHA is transitioning the monthly report into a new quarterly report that recaps work completed to date and provides a look ahead to upcoming project activities.

MAJOR SPRING 2017 ACTIVITIESDuring the spring, construction crews received permits and began utility relocations to accommodate new roadway configurations. The work completed included:

• Completion of sanitary sewer manholes and pipes at the Livingston Road intersection, along northbound MD 210;

• Completion of weld repairs for the gas line along the southbound side of MD 210, north of Wilson Bridge Drive;

• Installation of wire on utility poles by Comcast and Verizon, on the southbound service road;

• Construction of new drainage work along northbound MD 210; and

• Continuation of noise barrier construction along northbound MD 210.

TRAFFIC PATTERN UPDATESThis summer crews will continue ongoing construction activities including:

• Relocating gas line located near the right turn lane ramp at Wilson Bridge Drive and MD 210 southbound;

• Installing noise barrier walls on the northbound side of MD 210;

• Relocating the stream on southbound MD 210; and

• Completing PEPCO utility work at Kerby Hill and Livingston Roads.

As summer construction continues along MD 210, traffic shifts will include single lane closures during non-rush hour periods, generally between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

During the fall, the pace of construction activities is expected to increase as work to construct this interchange continues. Once the noise barriers have been completed, paving work will begin. Activities to support this work include:

• Continuing the relocation of major utilities (PEPCO, Washington Gas, Verizon, and Comcast);

• Widening and beginning paving operations along MD 210 to accommodate new travel lanes;

• Continuing the construction of noise barriers along northbound MD 210, and beginning construction of noise barriers along southbound MD 210.

• For the latest real-time travel information, log onto www.md511.org or call 1-855-466-3511 using a hands-free device.

FALL 2017 ACTIVITIES

There will be significant changes to traffic patterns along MD 210 and adjacent roads. Motorists and community members should anticipate traffic congestion, extended road closures, and detours as construction progresses and should plan accordingly, including using alternate travel routes or transit when possible.

MDOT SHA will post anticipated changes to traffic circulation on the project website and will place temporary signs along the roadway to provide notice of work. Interested parties may request to receive weekly and quarterly project updates by emailing the project team. As always, MDOT SHA urges drivers to be vigilant while traveling through work zones.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING CONSTRUCTION

RENDERINGS OF FUTURE INTERCHANGE

These renderings resemble what the MD 210 at Kerby Hill Road/Livingston Road interchange will look like when construction is complete. The upper left rendering shows a view of the interchange looking northeast. The upper right rendering shows a view of the interchange looking northwest. The bottom center rendering is the view looking southbound on MD 210 (leaving I-495/I-95) with a snapshot of the view from the driver's perspective.
