INTRODUCTION• Found naturally in the natural fuel oil

• 1-propanol was discovered by Chancel when he was doing fractional distillation of fuel oil

• Hydroformylation process was discovered by Otto Roelen in 1938 during the investigation of oxygenated products by using cobalt as catalyst in Fischer-Tropsch reaction

• Early 1970’s, rhodium catalysts introduced
