CERT. JUNIOR PM

The IAPM International Association of Project Managers offers the traditional project management certifications, Certi-fied Project Manager and Certified Senior Project Manager, for people with at least five years of project experience, as well as entry-level Certified Junior Project Manager (IAPM) certification. A survey conducted in 2013 by the German Digital Economy Association (BVDW) about students’ expec- tations of their future careers revealed that the majority of students want careers in ‘marketing and sales‘ (56.4%), ‘project management‘ (53.1%) or ‘PR and commu- nications‘ (40.5%).

These survey results clearly illustrate the relevance of project management certifica- tions that are feasible and affordable for students, career starters or career changers. Certified Junior Project Manager (IAPM) strikes the right chord with many people who are keen to take their first steps in pro-ject management. That’s why one potential target group for this certificate are students who have covered the topic of project man-agement in their degree courses or are in-terested in the subject and believe it to be important for their career development.

It could be described as the ‘little brother’ of the Certified Project Manager certifica- tion. It is inexpensive (costing just a fraction of the fees for other IAPM certifications), and it certifies basic knowledge, but not project experience. The IAPM wants to actively promote project management as a key qualification as early as possible, so this certification is designed to attract a younger audience and encourage them to take an interest in project management very early on in their careers.

Acquiring project management knowledge as early as possible isn’t just an advantage for people who are planning a career in pro-ject management. Aspects of project man-agement such as advance planning, soft skills such as respectful and motivat-ing interaction with other members of the team or the knowledge of how to approach both small and large-scale projects are also advantages to people in careers outside project management. So Certified Junior Project Manager (IAPM) certification en- courages people to get involved in this key subject and today’s junior project managers could go on to be tomorrow’s senior project managers.

You can freshen up and broaden your knowledge with the help of the PM Guide 2.0 (which can be viewed free of charge at www.iapm.net), because it forms the basis for the IAPM online certification examination.

It provides detailed explanations of the hard and soft factors of project management as a compact, logically structured and easy-to-understand certification baseline.
