Described as “a joy to watch—sparkling as much as the instruments in their hands” (Splash Magazine), Project Fusion was formed in 2010 by graduates of the Eastman School of Music, and as been praised for staging engaging and communicative concerts, achieved in part through the distinctive feat of performing musical programs exclusively from memory. A winner of Astral’s 2015 National Auditions, Project Fusion has captured top prizes in the world’s most prestigious chamber music competitions, including the Gold Medal at the 40th Fischoff Chamber Music Competition (2012), First Prize at the 2013 Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music Competition, Second Prize at the 2012 North American Saxophone Alliance Quartet Competition, the Coleman Saunderson Prize at the 66th Annual Coleman Chamber Music Competition, and Second Prize at the 2012 J.C. Arriaga Chamber Music Competition. The ensemble is the first saxophone quartet to earn Grand Prize, as well as the Hugo Vianello Audience Choice Award, at the 6th Plowman International Chamber Music Competition. Comprised of dedicated and passionate teachers, Project Fusion takes part in outreach and arts advocacy programs throughout the country. The ensemble presents convocations, clinics, and workshops in numerous K-12 schools, as well as residencies and master classes at colleges and universities throughout the Midwest and East Coast, and was featured at the McArdle Ramerman Center’s “Leadership Coaching Program,” to demonstrate management and communication skills through the rehearsal process and performance of chamber music to aspiring business leaders. Dedicated to public arts outreach, Project Fusion has also presented recitals and educational programs in retirement communities, libraries, churches, and civic centers. Project Fusion’s diverse repertoire represents their advocacy of new music. The quartet incorporates repertoire written within the last 20 years on each of its concerts, and has collaborated with composers David Maslanka, Margaret Henry, Alan Theisen, and A.J. McCaffrey. Recognizing that the saxophone is often seen as a young and beguiling chamber music instrument, Project Fusion also programs standard repertoire, in arrangements and transcriptions customized specifically for the ensemble. Project Fusion’s name is derived from the philosophy that music is an infinite, ongoing “project” guided by a sense of adventure and creativity, and that the “fusion” of ideas results in meaningful and enjoyable artistic creations. The members of Project Fusion come from eclectic pedagogical backgrounds, and are active performers in other ensembles throughout the country. Critical Acclaim

“The performance by Project Fusion was a joyful celebration of this instrument, bringing the rarely heard classical chamber repertoire for saxophone to delight our ears. The four award-winning ensemble members…were also a joy to watch, sparkling as much as the instruments in their hands.” — Amy Munice, Splash Magazines
