(PFI) is a 33 year old organizaon dedicated to empowering people with disabilies to live independently through housing and related support services. In the old days, there were very few choices available for someone who used a wheelchair and needed an accessible environment. The only choices were in an instuon, nursing home or maybe a group home. For someone who could make their own choices, this was not acceptable. PFI first order of business was to develop housing that would allow someone to make their own choices. The first agenda item was the construcon of the apartment complex of 30 units designed specifically for people with severe disabilies. This meant lower counters, and light switches; accessible bathrooms with plenty of room for a wheelchair and accessible kitchens . As me went by, PFI recognized that most folks with a disability don’t want to be segregated from the mainstream, so they began to build housing communies which include non- disabled persons and families. To date, PFI has over 500 units located throughout the State of New Jersey with presently more to build in West Windsor and Gibbsboro, NJ

OUR HISTORY Project Freedom Inc. (PFI) is a 33 year old organization dedicated to empowering people with disabilities to live independently through housing and related support services. In the old days, there were very few choices available for someone who used a wheelchair and needed an accessible environment. The only choices were in an institution, nursing home or maybe a group home. For someone who could make their own choices, this was not acceptable. PFI first order of business was to develop housing that would allow someone to make their own choices. The first agenda item was the construction of the apartment complex of 30 units designed specifically for people with severe disabilities. This meant lower counters, and light switches; accessible bathrooms with plenty of room for a wheelchair and accessible kitchens .

As time went by, PFI recognized that most folks with a disability don’t want to be segregated from the mainstream, so they began to build housing communities which include non-disabled persons and families. To date, PFI has over 500 units located throughout the State of New Jersey with presently more to build in West Windsor and Gibbsboro, NJ

OUR DEVELOPMENTS Project Freedom's first endeavor was the construction of a 30-unit apartment complex in Robbinsville, NJ, completed in 1991. All of the apartments are fully accessible for people with disabilities. As PFI moved through the construction of this complex, it created related services to increase independence for people with disabilities. These services now include recreation, transportation, advocacy information and referral.

In 1995 a shared living house adjacent to our first apartment complex was completed. Here tenants share a common living room, dining room and kitchen but have private bedrooms with bathroom. The Robbinsville "campus" houses people with various types of disabilities.

Project Freedom's third venture was the completion of Project Freedom at Hamilton in October 2001, creating 48 apartments in Hamilton Township, Mercer County. This campus has eight apartment buildings of six units each and a large Community Center for group gatherings

The completion of Project Freedom at Lawrence marked the fourth accomplishment in 2003 with 54 apartments in Lawrence Township, Mercer County. This campus has nine buildings of six units each. It also boasts a large Community Center with offices and room for group meetings.

Freedom Village at Hopewell, a 72 unit complex in Hopewell Township, NJ, was our next and larger project. Completed in Feb 2014, it offers one, two and three bedroom apartments with 25% being wheelchair accessible and 75% being universally designed for anybody’s use. The universal design means that apartments can be easily adapted for someone in a wheelchair.

Freedom Village at Toms River consists of six two-story apartment buildings with 12 units in each with 1, 2, and 3 bedroom rental apartments. This inclusive community provides barrier free accessible housing for people with mobility problems and also appeals to families who want spacious apartments in a quiet neighborhood.

Freedom Village at Westampton consists of six, two-story apartment buildings with 12 units in each, and offers 1, 2, and 3 bedroom rental apartments. There is also a community center that houses our administrative and maintenance offices along with a community room The Bur-link bus network has a stop at the property,

As time went by, PFI recognized that most folks with a disability don’t want to be segregated from the mainstream, so they began to build housing communities which include non-disabled persons and families. In 2010, Freedom Village at Woodstown was completed in Salem County, NJ. It consists of five, two story apartment buildings with 12 units each, and a Community Center for offices and tenant use.
