originsNeil Armstrong was born on August 5, 1930 in Ohio. Son of Stephen Koenig Armstrong and Viola Louise Engel, his

family is of German origin

interest in aviationArmstrong took great interest in flying at a

young age, at six years old made his first flight in a Ford Tri-Motor airplane. Since that time,

he had a great fascination with aviation.

being youngAt 15, Armstrong began taking

flying lessons at the airport.At age 16, was a student pilot.

He got the license before graduating from high school in

1947.As soon as he graduated from high school, he began studying

aeronautical engineering.In 1949 the Navy called to do military obligations, where he

became an aviator.

First worksIn 1963 he became an astronaut in 1966 and flies in the Geminni

8, his first space mission. Armstrong is pictured during a

training session at NASA Nevada.

Apolo 11The Apollo 11 took off in Florida on July 16, 1963. In the mission, traveled with Michael Collins and Edwin Aldrin Jnr, was directed by Neil Armstrong.

On July 21, 1969 Apollo 11 landing on the moon, Neil Armstrong became

the first man to step on it.

was a great manHe died on August 25, 2012, at a hospital in

Columbus, Ohio, from complications during surgery. Hours later,

President Obama issued a statement

describing him Armstrong's death

"was one of the biggest American

heroes, not only of his time, of all time."
