THE PROJECT ENGINEERING GROUP

BACKGROUND

The Project Engineering Group (PEG) is a Division of Grindwell Norton Ltd (GNO), which is part of the Saint-Gobain Group.

PEG came into existence in the early 70s’ as an in-house project team for setting up projects for GNO and is located at GNO’s Bangalore plant. Since acquiring a majority holding in GNO in 1995-96, Saint-Gobain over the past decade, has invested in various businesses across India. PEG has been involved in many of these projects, both green-field and brown-field in nature.

The project experience with Saint-Gobain in India facilitated the team to expand its reach and provide engineering services to group companies, in other parts of the world, as well as external clients. PEG’s strengths stem from the rich engineering experience that has been built in over three decades of existence in this field. The exposure to global engineering standards (eg. CE, UL) has further reinforced the capabilities within the team, bringing with it a confidence to foray into hitherto unknown areas. Some of the standards followed are ASME, ANSI, DIN, BS and Chinese, besides other standards like JIS, GOST, etc for specific applications.

The team of 50 engineers’ provides a good experience in the various disciplines - Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Chemical, Electrical, Controls’ & Automation, Industrial engineering, EHS, etc. The design & engineering activities are handled using various softwares’ – AutoCAD and ZWCAD, Cadisson and AutoCAD Revit for 3D Plant engineering, E-plan for Electrical Designs, while Project management & scheduling is done using MS Projects.

The division is also certified for ISO 9000:2008, ISO 14001:2004 & OSHAS 18001:2007. PEG’s activities integrate Saint-Gobain’s EHS standards quite effectively, right from the Design stage to Commissioning. Internal rating systems/objectives ensure that performance indices for EHS and QMS w.r.t. PEG’s customers are documented and monitored for improvements.

DESIGN & ENGINEERING

Design Engineering Services include

Plant Layouts: Preparation of detailed layouts considering optimal material flow, ergonomics & statutory requirements

Three dimensional Architectural perspective views giving a bird’s eye interpretation of proposed deliverables’

P&I Drawings: Providing comprehensive Process and instrumentation diagrams with appropriate details of automation involved

Utility Engineering: Designing of plant utilities including Pipe Sizing, utility equipment sizing’ from Design Basis Report to Bill of Quantities

Methods Engineering: Selection of suitable process of operation based on output and efficient utilization of manpower

3D Piping & Ducting Drawings: Preparation of 3D routing drawing for utility & process piping drawings, and arriving at an accurate BOQ

Having over three decade of experience in manufacturing custom built and special purpose machinery for various manufacturing facilities of Grindwell Norton and for Group Companies of Saint-Gobain, PEG has also ventured into Contract Manufacturing & Supply for external Clients.

PEG has built its own infrastructure to handle the Machine Building activity and the 1100 sq.mts facility, is equipped with features like

PROJECT ENGINEERING & MANAGEMENT

Project Engineering Management (PEM) Services is the core business vertical of the Project Engineering Group (PEG), which offers engineering, consultancy and project management services for Greenfield projects or expansion projects.

We support our clients from Concept to Commissioning, and broadly cover the following in our scope:

Due diligence of land options: Support in selection of land

depending on the raw material availability, area and other various

parameters that are essential for an industry.

Statutory Approvals (location specific): Provide assistance in

obtaining the required statutory approvals to set up a plant

Basic & Detail Engineering: Basic & Detailed Engineering for the

project based on client inputs

Project planning, scheduling & reporting: Preparation & tracking

of project schedule using MS Projects

Budget control & cash flow tracking: Done through Standard

formats that are available for recording and analysis

Procurement Services: A good vendor data base is maintained for

all engineering functions namely Civil, Mechanical, Electrical &

Automation sections

Sourcing, follow up & inspection: A regular follow up and

inspection at various stages of manufacturing is carried out

project wise

Site safety management: The enforcement of SG standards in

project site activities is carried out based on Construction safety

manual that is part of all site activity tenders and implementation

through site safety personnel

Construction management incl. supervision of plant installation

& assistance in commissioning: Part of scope offered and carried

out through systematic and well - coordinated processes with

focus on quality, cost & time
