Imaging

Description: Demonstrate good photography and image editing skills using acamera and Photoshop.

Programs: Adobe Photoshop

Date: 2/19/13 . Course: Design Media . Instructor: Eric Lybbert

Objectives:• Learn basic photography skills.• Use a digital camera to take a quality image, and then download it.• Size and crop the image.• Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels.• Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image.• Desaturate the selected portion of the image.• Use a lter or colorize a portion of the image.

Process: I took many photos of my sister, wearing my sunglasses and holding my iPod touch, with my Nikon camera and then uploaded my favorite shotonto Photoshop. I resized it to a 6×6 and kept my focal point on the iPod. Idesaturized everything but the iPod case and her ngernail and then I changedthe color of the iPod case and made her ngernail a darker blue and saturized itthe littlest bit using the Hue/Saturation option.

FlierDescription: To design a ier layout in InDesign using images and learn aboutlinks and the basics of InDesign.

Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop

Date: 1/26/13 . Course: Design Media . Instructor: Eric Lybbert

Objectives:• Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.• Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic ier layout.• Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.• Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep linksintact.

Process:

What I rst did was draw a brief simple sketch of my brainstormed idea of how I wanted to organize the paper. Once I had my rough drawing I went to InDesignand basically did what I drew but developed and changed it from there. I hadcontrasting repetition black boxes for the title and the date so that they stood outmore for the focal point. I used a big font for the title and smaller sans serif forthe body copy with a strong left alignment. I cropped the photo that I was givenenough so that I could keep the point of the hat that pointed to the body (keepthe eyes on the paper).

Web PageDescription: Create a web page for a potential employer using one of my logos wa description of the design process that demonstrates basic HTML and CSS skills.

Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop

Date: 3/15/13 . Course: Design Media . Instructor: Eric Lybbert

Objectives: • Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals totarget audience.• Design a web page using HTML to display the logo and content.• Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic understanding of CSS.• Identify hex colors for web design.• Compress multiple les in a zipped folder to attach as one le.

Process:I created this webpage using TextWrangler and writing basic codes. It was likelearning another language. I attached a pre-made CSS document to my HTML. UsPhotoshop I got the codes for the colors of my logo and incorporated them into th

webpage. I didn’t use exact colors, I changed them to either really dark and/or supelight versions of the colors. For the background tile picture I grabbed that from theinternet and on Photoshop I gave it a dark purple hue to match the violet/purpletheme I have going on. The words in the border were inspired by the fact that “staris from outer space, hence galaxy. Instead of having the page white I made it a real

light, pale, purple so that it would not stand out badly. The font color is a really dablue that it looks almost black. I had some of the other colors from my logo in my  webpage but it made it look really childish and unprofessional. I feel that this versistill is fun and has color, but is not so crazy that you could taste the rainbow.

Stationery

Description: Design a new logo and a letterhead for a business letter

Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Indesign

Date: 3/2/13 . Course: Design Media . Instructor: Eric Lybbert

Objectives: • Create a new logo to t a company or personal image.• Design consistent layouts for a letterhead.• Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.

Process: For the logo I added four different colored stars with a faded transparency of 60%. I angled them so that you could see all of the different colors from the tipsof the stars and then wrote the name over it. The stars on the back of the business

card are the same colors and then some. I really wanted to bring up the fact thatstarbust is a colorful candy, so I kept it lively and fun to look at. I added a big star

with a faded transparency of 10% just enough so that you could still write a letterand have your white space.

BrochureDescription: Design a full-color, folding brochure to help promote thecompany product, service and information using four images for my employer.

Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop

Date: 3/30/13 . Course: Design Media . Instructor: Eric Lybbert

Objectives: • Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.• Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure.• Incorporate quality images.

Process:For my project I chose to do it on something that I love. So I chose yoga! Iproceeded to collect the 4 photos needed for my project and then organized

them onto my brochure so that it would look simple and give it a peacefulfeeling since yoga is very relaxing. I chose this wooden paneling picture formy border because it’s a nice soft color and usually in yoga studios the oor is

wooden paneling of some kind. I designed the logo on Adobe Illustrator andnamed it after my favorite series of yoga poses. Then the picture of the face inthe logo is suppose to be a man praying/meditating with his head bowed down asif he’s about to say “Namaste”. The font I chose was to make it look professionaland clean looking.

Programs: Adobe Illustrator, Indesign

Date: 2/23/13 . Course: Design Media . Instructor: Eric Lybbert

Objectives:• Create a variety of logos to t a company or personal image.• Use the basic tools of Illustrator.

Process: For the rst logo I chose a nice simple yet fun font and in place of where the“a” in star would have gone I put an actual star. For my second logo I lledin the capitalized initials with colorful squares to represent starbursts sincethey are a square shaped candy. I had to erase the parts of the colored boxesthat went outside the line. For the third logo I placed a start and designed thegradient slider for it and then painted the strokes of the “shooting star” effect toemphasize on the “burst” part of the word. I made the font a dark blue to addsome contrast.
