Step 1: Trace Star Template

Page 6: Project: 3D Five-Pointed Star Mobile

Trace outline of stars on cardstock or regular paper.

Trace a minimum of five stars and a maximum of ten stars.

Note:Your mobile will look more interesting if you vary the sizes of your stars.

Step 2: Add 3-D Lines

Using a ruler and pen orpencil, draw a line fromeach of the star’s tips to the inner points

Each line should intersect through the centre of the star

Follow the red lines in this image as a guide

Step 3: Score Inner Lines of Star

Page 11: Project: 3D Five-Pointed Star Mobile

To “score” cardstock….

• Place ruler alongside line to score• Using the ruler’s edge as a

“guide”, press firmly into paper while sliding scissor-blade along line

Note:You do not need to score inner lines of stars if you are using standard weight paper for your design. Students using regular paper can skip this step.

Step 4: Cut out stars…

Step 5: Personalize Stars

Page 14: Project: 3D Five-Pointed Star Mobile

Use lines and shapes to create designs that are unique and represent you.

Think about your favorite colours or patterns; do you like swirling, circular shapes, or sharp, jagged lines?

Try using a hole-punch on cardstock or small cuts along inner folds of paper stars to create a “snowflake” effect.

Be creative! Take your time.Have fun.

Before we begin:

How do we “assess” this project?

What is an “exemplary” design?

How will you grade yourself?

What criteria will we use?

Page 16: Project: 3D Five-Pointed Star Mobile

Note:

We will continue to work on our star mobile designs until they are complete.

Please meet in the Art Room next class, and come with your ideas for building our class “grading rubric” for this project.

We will take the first fifteen minutes of class to decide the criteria for an “exemplary” mobile design.
