0After you have chosen the projects that you are interested in, go and see the lecturer who proposed the project for further discussion.

0The lecturer will register you for the project.

How do you propose your own project?

0Write a brief proposal containing the following information:0 Project title0 A brief description on what you are going to

implement0 Objectives and scopes0 Outcome of the project

0The proposed topic must be related to your specialization.

0Find a lecturer who is willing to supervise your project.0 MUST BE from SN department

Initial Report

0A small write up (around 2 to 3 page) that contain the plan for the whole project.

0Should be agreed upon by both student and supervisor.

Logbook

0Each student is required to keep a logbook (can be obtained from http://sephiroth/spmsv2/).

0All your progress must be written in the logbook.0Bring the logbook during your meeting with

supervisor.0 Supervisor need to read and sign your logbook.

0At the end of the semester, if there are less than SIX signatures, your supervisor has the right to give you an E.

Project 1 vs. Project 20 The actual scope for project 1 and project 2 depends on

the methodology used.0 Example 1: Waterfall Model

0 Project 1: Literature review, user requirements, system design.0 Project 2: Implementation, testing.

0 Example 2: Prototyping Model0 Project 1: Literature review, system design (maybe partially),

prototype 1, prototype testing.0 Project 2: More design, prototype 2 (or more), final product,

testing.

0 Discuss expected deliverables (for both Project 1 and 2) with your supervisor.

Project Examiner0Each project will be assigned an examiner.

0 An examiner is another lecturer who will evaluate your project together with your supervisor.

0Examiners will choose the projects that he/she wants to examine.0 You have no control over who your examiner will be.

0It is COMPULSORY for you to discuss your project with your examiner at least once during the semester.0 Many students don’t do this. 0 It may cause problem later on.

Presentation

0Will be done in supervisor’s room and evaluated by supervisor and examiner.

0Duration around 30 minutes.0Recommendation and suggestions should be

taken seriously.0Modify report if necessary.

Final Report

0Read the COIT’s final year project guidelines to learn about the format.

0Should roughly follow our suggested report contents.

0Make sure grammar is correct.

0Write with intention that somebody else who read the report will be able to understand what are you supposed to do for the project.

0Make sure all contents cited from other sources are referenced properly.

0 Each of you are allocated RM 400.00 for buying equipments.

0What happen if I cannot get a project?0 Consult the project coordinator to see whether she

can help you.0 After a certain deadline, you need to drop the project.

Otherwise, you will be given an E.

0I cannot finish my project 1 in this semester. Can I extend?0 Extension is only allowed until the first week of the

next semester. Otherwise, you will be given an E.

0What if I want to submit my report a little bit later than the deadline?0 Yes, you can do so, but you need to seek permission

from both your supervisor and examiner.0 If you do not ask for permission, your supervisor and
