Target Population: 94 Tsunami affected families and the surrounding communities of four villages with a population of 4,000. II. Project Information 7. Project Goal: Provide medical care to Tsunami affected families and the less privileged to help build a healthy community. 8. Project Objectives: 1. Support the community with free high quality healthcare services 2. Help to create a healthy community, especially amongst the younger generation 9. Summary of RMF-sponsored activities carried out during the reporting period under project objective (note any changes from original plans): The clinic was opened 10 days per month to provide free healthcare services to the community of Yayawatta at Seenimodara in Tangalle, Sri Lanka, and its surrounding villages and communities of Palapotha, Kadurupokuna & Seenimodara. 10. Results and/or accomplishments achieved during this reporting period: The clinic was opened for 10 days each month and for the First Quarter of 2014, we saw an average of 21 patients per day with a total of 625 patients treated. In the month of April, 210 patients were treated, 98 males and 112 females In the month of May, 209 patients were treated, 100 males and 109 females In the month June, 206 patients were treated, 99 males and 107 females. 11. Impact this project has on the community (who is benefiting and how): This project benefits two categories of patients; the community of Yayawatta, who had lost their livelihoods and loved ones in the Tsunami of December 2004, and the lower income groups of families that live in the villages and communities around Yayawatta. 12. Number served/number of direct project beneficiaries (for example, average number treated per day or month and if possible, per health condition). A total of 625 patients were treated at our clinic during this reporting period. 13. Number of indirect project beneficiaries (geographic coverage): Approximately 4,000 14. If applicable, plans for next reporting period: Continue clinic operations; continue reporting of clinic attendance, disease prevalence and family planning utilization for Quarter 2, 2014. 18. If applicable, summary of RMF-sponsored medical supply distribution and use: Monthly lists of medicines and supplies are attached in Annex 1. 19. Success story(s) highlighting project impact: 1. Mrs. Ranjani had come to the Real Medicine Clinic in Yayawatta with swelling & joint pain of her right ankle. She has a history of falling and had ignored the pain in her ankle for a long time. After x-raying her ankle it was clear she had fractures in her foot. She was referred to the Orthopedic Clinic at the Tangalle Base Hospital and is now healing with a plaster cast on her foot.

Mrs. Lasika is 27 years old and came to our clinic with complaints of increased urination and thirst. Blood tests were taken and it was found that she is a diabetic. She was referred to the Diabetic Clinic at Tangalle Base Hospital and is now undergoing treatment and will be closely monitored at our Yayawatta Clinic as well moving forward.

Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, RMF’s medical consultant serving at our clinic since its inception, passed his examination as an Administrator of the Health Department and in the near future will be supervising all the medical consultants in the district/region.
