Progress Report

At the moment I am happy with what I have uploaded onto the blog and I feel as though I have a good idea to what my magazine may include. I have enjoyed researching into the magazines and feel as if the research will be useful and relevant when it comes to designing my magazine

Page 3: Progress report

I have decided on a magazine that will hopefully attract both genders instead of just males who are often associated with indie magazines, this gives me a unique selling point.

For my magazine I am going to conduct a photoshoot of an indie band called ‘Hallowed People’, this will then allow me to write an article about them or interview them allowing me to include factual knowledge in my article. This will give readers the inside knowledge of what its like to be a new upcoming indie band. I will also take photos of my friends to include in the contents page.

My front cover will abide by the Rule Of Thirds in order to accentuate the cover image and attract people’s attention. I decided to use five headlines and this will allow me to do so which reflects the content of the magazine. I have not fully decided on House style yet as I want to experiment with a variety of colours in order to find out which is more effective but I would prefer to use different shades of blue. In my questionnaire I will ask what House style people would prefer which I will also take into account when I experiment with them.

On my contents page I would prefer the layout to be more creative and exciting but also gives relevant information at the same time. This means that I can include all the information in a different way to how the article will be, therefore the magazine won’t be boring and shows the variety which reflects the rest of the magazine. I will also include lots of images and a competition on this page.

Throughout this coursework I will need to manage my time a lot more effectively in order to keep on top of all my work, I plan to do this by using my school planner and organising the shoot and interview early on in the process. This would therefore allow me to work at a higher level and keep my work maintained and steady.

In my magazine I will allow my audience the opportunity to use the internet to contribute their thoughts and ideas to the magazine. By doing so I will include digital natives into my audience by incorporating the use of Web 2.0. This is very important as it will reflect my research into independent journalism and give the public more freedom of speech compared to other magazines whilst also keeping to the ‘indie’ genre. I will do this through competitions and reviews.

I would want my magazine to be owned by the large conglomerate ‘Bauer’ as it also owns a variety of other indie magazines. This will allow me to get as much distribution as the other magazines and hopefully make my magazine more successful. This is also conventional for an indie magazine now as it reflects the genre becoming more mainstream.
