Design Marker/Pen HolderFirst, I measured the dimension of different circles and tubes from the prototype we made before.

Secondly, based on the measurements I made, I tried to design the pen holder on Rhinoceros for the first time. I realise

what I did is not legit. The smaller circle was not placing correctly on the center of the biggest circle. And there were

many small circles were out of place.

Next, I found an online exercise on to draw a 2D object on Rhinoceros, so I can get an idea of how this program works.

I used many simple shapes to create a more complex object.

Lastly, I re-made the modeling of the pen holder after I learn more about Rhipcerors. It is much accurate compare to

the first model I drew. I also wrote the radius of all circles and the distance between them, which helped me to double

check with the prototype.

Alpha Laser CuttingI brought my file to the laser room and had them cut in the laser cutting machine.

Design TubesFirst, I drew the boundaries on Rhinoceros and everything that go inside it can be use for 3D laser printing (285 x

150 x 150 mm). Then, I drew a solid cylinder with dimension 5mm and length 75mm. I shorten the length of the

tube compare the prototype we had in progress 01 & 02 from the feedback. Bases on the feedback, shorter

length of the tube is easier to balance and stabilise the marker/pen. I made two copies of the cylinder that I drew,

so they are all identical.

3D PrintingI brought my file to the laser room and had them print by the 3D laser printing machine. I waited for around 30 to

40mins to get it printed. I also sanding these tubes to make it more smooth outside.

AssemblingI put assembled the component I made to make a pen holder.

Sketching PulleysI sketched some basic idea of how to design a pulley that can

rolling strings that attached to the pen holder and how pulleys

attached to servo motors. One side of the pulley is thicker

than the other side, so I can screw the pulley onto the motor. I

will continuously refine and design a perfect fit of pulleys for

the motors we are going to use.
