CI SITUATION REPORT SITREP 1 PROGRAMME TITLE: Tsunami at Sunda Strait, Indonesia PROGRAMME LOCATION: Provinces of Banten and Lampung, Indonesia DATES COVERED: 23 – 25 December 2018 SITREP NUMBER:1 SUBMITTED BY: Yohanes Baskoro 1. SITUATION OVERVIEW The emergency response after the tsunami that hit coastal areas in Banten and Lampung Provinces is ongoing by day and night. High and strong waves suddenly hit the lands without warning on December 22 nd , 2018 at 9.30 PM of Western Indonesia Time (WIB). The total casualties up to December 24 th , based on BNPB official statement, 373 people are found dead, 1.459 are injured, 128 people are still missing, and 5.665 are now displaced. Moreover, about 681 houses are damaged, 69 hotels are heavily damaged, and other buildings as well as assets are damaged. Local governments are working hand in hand with army, police and central government to evacuate as many lives as possible and providing direct assistant to the survivors. The affected areas are in the Regencies of Pandeglang and Serang at Lampung Province and also Regencies of Lampung Selatan, Tanggamus and Pesawaran at Lampung Province. The most affected area with most casualties is Pandeglang Regency. The survivors receive medical treatment at the nearest clinics and hospitals. So far, there is no significant obstacle to access the affected areas with land vehicles. The communication facilities and coverages are reliable. 2. CARITAS RESPONSE • The tsunami hit Banten and Lampung areas in which the first area is under the Diocese of Bogor and the later area is under the Diocese of Tanjung Karang. On December 24 th , RD. Y. Eko Yulianto, the head of Caritas Diocese of Bogor, activated its emergency response mechanism to provide emergency response needs to the affected population in cooperation with the Parish of Kristus Raja, Serang and Parish of St. Maria Tak Bernoda, Rangkas Bitung. The Caritas works with Mission Hospital Lebak (belongs to Franciscan Sister) to provide food items and medical supports. • Meanwhile in Lampung, on December 23 rd , Yudo Pambudi, the head of Caritas Tanjung Karang organized his team to do emergency response activities. So far they had already provided food items for survivors. On December 24 th morning, they provided 700 packs of food items (ready to eat): 500

wheneverbothdioceseswanttoaccessthenationalemergencyfund.

needsassessmentattheaffectedparishes.
