THE NATIONAL FORESTRY OLYMPIAD

NFO is a scholastic competition among students of different forestry

schools in the country. It showcases the skills in surveying, mensura-

tion, dendrology, and wood identification of the country’s top forestry

students. These students also compete in a quiz on forestry and envi-

ronment. NFO was launched in 1994 and is held every two years at the

UPLB College of Forestry and Natural Resources.

The NFO is more than just a battle of the brains and skills of the coun-

try’s brightest students of forestry and related programs. It also pro-

motes linkages among forestry students nationwide and builds upon the

higher sense of environmentalism and commitment for the conservation

and sustainable management of the country’s forest and natural re-

sources. Moreover, NFO participants are lectured about recent develop-

ments in forestry, especially on instrumentation. Added benefit for the

participants is seeing the country’s center of forestry education and

research, and other agencies situated in the famous Mount Makiling.

The NFO is organized by the UP Zeta Beta Rho Honor Fraternity and

UP Mussaenda Honor Sorority. It is endorsed/ supported by UPLB; and

various government offices and non-government organizations, and

private businesses, particularly those working in the field of forestry

administration, management, and research.
