SALA A - AULA MAGNATECHNICAL VISITS

Visit 1. Valencia City Center

The visit will deepen some constructive features of Valencian heritage and the tour will be approached from multiple points of view, specially focused on re-sidential architecture, less known and less protected than others emblematic urban monumental buildings. Along the tour the guide will underline some outstanding relations between architecture and historic urban fabric, as well as architectural and constructive characters of remarkable case studies visible nowadays in the old town.

Visit 2. Gypsum in Gestalgar

In Gestalgar located just 50 km from Valencia in the region of Los Serranos, until the 70’s of the twentieth century, powdered gypsum has been produced in a traditional way. The visit will allow you to know on the one hand the points of extraction of the material, historic quarries nowadays abandoned. On the other hand, the historical constructions in which this activity has been developed. And finally, visit the town of Gestalgar and examples of traditional local archi-tecture in which you can appreciate the various uses that the material has had.

Visit 3. Lime in LLutxent

Llutxent´s municipality has a great architectural heritage where it stands out the castle of Xio and the Monastery of the Corpus Christi, which used lime as mortar binder on their construction. This region is one of the areas in the pro-vince of Valencia where the traditional manufactured lime was highly develo-ped, as the lime klins located show. The visitor will achieve an overview of how a natural resource like the lime stone, became a really important material on their constructions and, as time went by, a way of life and local economic engine.
