ABOUT THE INSTITUTE ON THE ENVIRONMENT ENERGY TRANSITION LAB

The Energy Transition Lab (ETL) is a strategic initiative of the University’s Institute on the Environment (environment.umn.edu) in partnership with the Law School. The mission of the Energy Transition Lab is to leverage the expertise of the University of Minnesota to work in

collaboration with leaders in the public, private, nonprofit and community sectors in transitioning our energy system to the future. We help to develop new energy policy pathways, institutions and regulations, and create a focal point for innovative solutions. The Energy Transition Lab

convenes a stakeholder group, the Minnesota Energy Storage Alliance, and has provided thought leadership on energy storage in Minnesota since 2015.

See ETL’s recent report, Modernizing Minnesota’s Grid: An Economic Analysis

of Energy Storage Opportunities, at energytransition.umn.edu.

ELLEN ANDERSON Director, Energy Transition Lab

Ellen has a long track record of energy policy leadership in Minnesota, having served for 18 years as State Senator and authored or co-authored many of Minnesota’s leading energy laws, including the Renewable Energy Standard and Next Generation Energy Act. She also served as Chair of the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission and Senior Energy & Environment Advisor to Governor Mark Dayton. She has received numerous awards for her work. She is a graduate cum laude of the University of Minnesota Law School and Carleton College.

BARB JACOBS Project Manager, Energy Transition Lab

At the Energy Transition Lab, Barb focuses on energy storage among a number of other topics. Barb previously served as Committee Administrator for the Minnesota Senate’s Environment and Energy Policy and Finance Committee, where she helped draft and pass dozens of bills to further Minnesota’s legacy of natural resource stewardship and clean energy leadership. Barb has a BA in English and Arts History from the University of Minnesota and is currently seeking a Masters in Public Affairs from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
