In Loving Memory of a Friend and Colleague
By Ivan Gomez, Program Director, UCSF Fresno FCM
UCSF Fresno Family and Community Medicine is mourning the loss of Dr. AlexMoir, who passed away following a skiing accident on December 19, 2015. He issurvived by his wife, Elise, and their two sons.
Alex had a profound impact on many people over his long career thatspanned over two decades. His legacy not only as a doctor, but also as aninspirational teacher and a leader is obvious in the over 250 practicing familyphysicians, many serving right here in the Central Valley, that are the doctorsthey are today because of the role model Alex was in embracing the core val-ues of care and compassion for our patients. In his more than 20 year career atUCSF Fresno, he advocated for rural and small-community family medicine, aswell as healthcare for Latinos and other underserved communities, andimpressed this passion upon his peers, residents and medical students.
As a testament to his years practicing in the community of Selma, California, Dr.Moir was recognized in 2012 by Adventist Health Central Valley Network with aPhysician of the Year Mission Award for his commitment to providing physical, mental and emotional care to his patients.
Under his leadership as Chief, UCSF Fresno Family and Community Medicine hasblossomed, becoming known and recognized statewide and nationally for itshuge diversity, comprehensive training and service mission it is known for today.
