Herder Institute The Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe – Institute of the Leibniz Association is one of the central facilities of historical East Central European research in Germany. The Institute is a member of the Leibniz Association.
The Institute focuses on the history and culture of Poland, Estonia, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Slovakia and the Kaliningrad region. It offers one of the best specialist libraries in this field and maintains extensive collections. It conducts research and development projects and organizes conferences, workshops and lectures.
A program of scholarships enables researchers to conduct research for periods between one and three months. The numerous publications of the institute’s publishing department include the Zeitschrift für Osteuropaforschungen (Journal of East Central European Research).
