About Us

Gidrolast Cylinder Factory was founded in 1994. Ever since its foundation, Stary Oskol, Russia have always adhered to its “Reputation first, User first” company tenet and established the brand of “Gidrolast ” which is well known in the industry. Our products are widely used in numerous fields such as metallurgy, mining, hoisting, transportation, ships, forging & stamping, machine tools, coal, petroleum, chemical engineering, scientific research, war industry, hydropower, wind power, etc.

In 2007, Gidrolast achieved a sales income of 120 million Rubles, which brought it into a club of private enterprises having a sales volume larger than 100 million Rubles in Ural District. Despite the Financial Crisis in 2008, Gidrolast managed to maintain its increment by achieving an annual sales income of 150 million Rubles with a year-on-year comparative growth of 20%. In 2009, Gidrolast achieved a sales income of 90 million Rubles. At present, Gidrolast thas a crew of more than 100 employees.

Gidrolas thas 2 subordinate plants. There are Principal Plant of Gidrolast which mainly produces hydraulic cylinders used in metallurgy, Engineering Oil Cylinder Plant which mainly produces special-purpose engineering hydraulic cylinders, and Metallurgical Machinery Plant which mainly produces metallurgical equipment and metallurgical systems, and Piston Rod Electroplating Plant.

Oil Cylinder Plant of Gidrolast was founded in 2010 with a total investment 2expected to be 30 million Rubles. The plant covers an area of 10,000 m . The

annual output is planed to be 50,000 cylinders in Stage 1 and sales 50 million Rubles in 2012. Gidrolast was imported many types of equipment from abroad, including Sunnen internal honing equipment, Panasonic robot welding equipment, large friction welders, and mass machining centers and NC equipment.The company has also erected an automatic paint spraying line.

In accordance with the “Quality changes future” business philosophy, Gidrolast puts 5%-7% of its sales income into research and development and has done in-depth researches of oil cylinders that are used for various purposes.These are, in particular, involved repeated verification of critical processes like sealing, electroplating, heat treatment, and welding. Dedicated to supplying high-quality and high-reliability products to our customers, Gidrolast has so far applied for more than 10 patents including mechanical-hydraulic double self-locking and piston rod sealing systems.

Production Equipment

Sophisticated production equipment is the key to the manufacture of high-quality products. With a high threshold, Gidrolast Hydraulic Cylinder Factory has introduced advanced techniques, production and testing equipment from abroad to keep manufacture in step with testing and fully realize intellectualized production and normalized operations. Thus, the quality and performance of products in every critical link throughout the entire manufacturing process can be effectively controlled.

Composition and Characteristics of Hydraulic Cylinders

As an important part of a hydraulic cylinder, the piston rod sealing system plays a crucial role. Under severe operating conditions and high requirements on sealing performance, a single seal will be usually insufficient to meet the sealing requirements. During the operation of the hydraulic cylinder, the external leakage of hydraulic oil may cause waste of hydraulic oil, pollution of the environment, and unsafe factors. In the worst case it may cause machines operation failures and accidents. In addition, over-pressure of the system may also shorten the service life of sealing elements. Our company has independently designed and developed a piston rod sealing system comprising a main sealing ring, an auxiliary sealing ring, a director element, and a dust ring. All sealing rings

are products of MERKEL, PARKER, and Susak & Shamban (for which patent applications have been filed). The main sealing ring provides high sealing performance and properly pumps back residual oil. It has low friction and high wear resistance at high operating temperatures and provides good HP-unloading functions.The auxiliary sealing ring provides excellent sealing effects and wear-resistance.

When bearing pressure, the director element deforms little, does not break easily, and provides excellent wear resistance, self-lubricity, and low friction.

The dust ring scrapes to remove dust, and leaves a film of protective oil

on the surface of the piston rod when it travels back.

Piston RodIn order to improve the strength of the piston rod and adapt it to high-

performance heat treatment, high-strength carbon steel or alloy steel which produced by precision grinding is used for the manufacture of the piston rod, which is electroplated with hard chrome and polished to a degree of 0.2|jm to ensure the integrity of the surface oil film and extend the service life of the sealing elements.

Piston rods with screw L/D ratios (length/diameter) greater than 20 can be put to thermal refining as required. The hardness of St52 steel and the hardness of 42CrMo.

Through nickel plating and then double-layer hard chrome electroplating, the anti-corrosive performance of the surfaces of the piston rod can be greatly improved.

At the minimum cross section, any piston rod or piston assembly has a 4:1 safety coefficient based on the tensile strength under the rated load.

Guide SleeveThe guide sleeve is used to support the back-and-forth movements of the piston rod. Made of high-

strength nodular cast iron, it has high wear resistance which avoids cementing and pulling strains between steel parts when sliding. A reasonable supporting length can improve the lateral bearing capacity, minimize the stress of the bearing, and extend the service lives of the cylinder and the sealing element.

Cylinder BodyThe wall thickness is calculated according to 1.5 times of the rated working pressure of the hydraulic

cylinder, which is made of high-strength alloy steel. Internal surfaces of the cylinder body are honed and rolled to reach a glossiness of 0.4pm as well as the specified cylindricity in order to reduce the frictional force with the internal sealing ring and extend the service life of the sealing element.

Piston and Piston Seal

The piston has a one-piece steel structure and works in a concentric fit

with the piston rod. The piston is screwed to the piston rod through long threads and

firmly locked with the piston rod to ensure reliable performance under high

speeds/loads. The piston is sealed in both directions with five combined parts

including a rubber sealing ring. Anti-extrusion rings are provided at both sides to prevent the rubber sealing ring from being squeezed into the clearance and being damaged during low-friction operations under the rated pressure. The outmost L-shaped supporting ring prevents contact with metal of the holes inside the cylinder, protects the rubber sealing ring from being damaged by contaminants, and ensures long-time stable service.

Buffer StructureOur Factory has designed a floating-type self-regulation buffer device

(for which a patent application has been filed) which automatically adjusts the moving speed and time. Its working mechanism is to change the flow area inside the working cavity so that the pressure inside the buffer cavity keeps evenly distributed or changes according to certain rules. Through the slow-down movements, it mitigates the direct impact on the cylinder head and cylinder bottom with significant buffering effects, to protect the hydraulic cylinder. It ensures the stable, safe and reliable operation of the hydraulic cylinder, guarantees the normal service of piping, valves and instruments in the related hydraulic system, and extends the service life.

Welding PerformanceAutomatic friction welding and robot welding are employed to

effectively avoid unstable quality factors brought by manual welding and to improve the quality of welding joints and working efficiency. After welding, professionals will carry out ultrasonic flaw detection to prevent welding defects.

Sealing Element and Oil Data

The selected sealing element must be determined in accordance with

the service working conditions, ambient temperature, oil medium, and sealing mode of the hydraulic cylinder.
