Welcome to RPS AccreditationThank you for choosing to be accredited by the RPS. RPS accreditation provides the mark of excellence for organisations or individuals developing high quality education and training programmes, resources and initiatives.

Types of RPS Foundation Accreditation

There are 3 types of Foundation Accreditation:

I. Resources mapped to the Foundation Pharmacy FrameworkII. Foundation Training ProvidersIII. Foundation Schools

Foundation Schools are a subset of Foundation Training Providers

RPS Foundation Programme “training providers”. An accredited RPS Foundation Programme provider delivers education and training mapped to the RPS Foundation Programme. Such providers support and develop foundation pharmacists to the RPS standards.

Where applicable, Foundation providers are recommended to work in partnership with employers and RPS Foundation Schools to benefit Foundation pharmacists and ensure standards are met. An employer can be accredited as a Provider, by meeting RPS Foundation Programme training provider standards and, where further support is required to meet the requirements for assessment, are encouraged to work in partnership with other accredited providers or RPS Foundation Schools.

Conversely, employers (who are not in a formal partnership with a RPS Foundation School) may work with accredited RPS Foundation Training providers, to deliver development experiences mapped to the RPS standards for the Foundation Programme.

training infrastructures, provide tutor training, provide assessments based on competency and performance, and provide a quality assured award demonstrating it is meeting RPS standards for Foundation Programme. Employers who are part of formalised partnerships with education providers, and who meet these standards, will be included in the recognition for RPS Foundation School.

The RPS Faculty Accreditation Panel will set the standards and methods for Foundation training provided by RPS accredited providers (whether RPS Foundation Schools or RPS Foundation Training Providers), ensure parity between accreditation processes of both Schools and Providers, and will ratify the award of accreditation.

RPS Foundation accreditation assures pharmacists that the training and development materials, and events:

• Contribute to their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) during their Foundation years

• Contribute to supporting them in delivering excellent pharmacy practice and patient care

•  Supports them with their wider professional development, including professional development as part of their RPS Foundation portfolio

Examples:

• Training Events e.g. congresses, seminars, workshops.

• Published materials e.g. journal articles, education and editorial content

• Short courses that support Foundation pharmacists

The following principles encompass the areas that the RPS expects any submission to consider and provide assurances of quality when applying for accreditation of resources or initiatives for RPS Foundation Schools and provision of foundation training.

Alongside each principle there are examples of evidence required to demonstrate their assurance of quality. There may be some duplication of requirements, where cross referencing is appropriate.

It is the responsibility of the Foundation School to provide assurances against the following principles for the award of RPS accredited Foundation School.

1.4 Glossary of Terms

1Term Description

The RPS Foundation Programme

The RPS Foundation Programme supports pharmacists to be the best they can be in any sector of practice or geographical location, in the early stages of career development, usually immediately post-registration.

In particular it supports the post-registration development of novice practitioners, pharmacists who are changing employment sector, and those returning to practice after a career break.

The programme describes a curriculum for Foundation experiences, monitoring of progress, the quality assurance of tutors and mentors, and the workplace education delivery model for Foundation pharmacists.

The RPS Foundation training programme requires a workplace environment that allows judgements to be made about a practitioner’s competence and performance using quality assured workplace-based assessment tools and support.

Frequently Asked Questions

RPS Accreditation | 2015

Page 26: Professional Development Plan document library... · Web viewUse of competency and performance-based assessments such as Clinical Examination tools (CEX), Case-based Discussion tools

Q: How will the foundation programme benefit our diploma students? Would they get something else in addition to the diploma award?Completion of the foundation programme will provide a “ticket” to emerging new roles, e.g. roles within GP practices, prescribing – cross sector and means jobs. In Scotland this would link up with roles described in Rx for excellence.

Students will get recognition from us as Royal College – postnominals? Certificate? (TBC) this will demonstrate that they are equipped.

Students get assurance form NES, RGU, RPS

Q: No expectation to submit for assessment form student like faculty?

RGU will provide assuranceFurther assurance will be provided by work base tutorDiplomeas may need ot be modified over the next 5 years but they still have currency

Q: What paperwork is needed for accreditation? Do we have to analyse and submit our gaps now?

Fill in submission form. RPS will look at gaps and will discuss these with you at a telecon/visit. We will provide a PDP.

PDP is about getting all gaps joined up and will allow you to get processes/partnership in place.

Principle 4: Do we need to specify in the principles that assessments require an 'independent QA review'? This was mentioned at UCL/KCL meeting. Or would this go in the guidance document (this question is relevant in light of Foundation Training providers vs schools for community and assessment processes)

Site visits:

- Talk to tutors – LJMU: do they receive regular visits from their Clinical Liaison Tutor?

- Do tutors understand what WPBL and WPBA are?- Talk to Education leads: is feedback from clinical liaison tutors and PBTs

used in appraisals / managing conduct?- LJMU – talk to Study Board representative to see if their voice is heard at

study board meetings
