All the above assignments have been carried out at the Centre of Excellence in Solid State Physics, the Punjab University, Lahore. Institution Building The Centre of Excellence in Solid State Physics was established in 1973. Since joining the Centre I

have been involved in a number of areas of importance to the establishment and development of a

newly created Centre of Excellence. This includes planning for new research laboratories and

teaching courses in the field of solid state physics and establishment of an X-ray Diffraction

laboratory. I am also, currently, looking after the Materials Science, Scanning Electron Microscopy,

EPMA and AES laboratories in addition to teaching and supervising M.Phil. and Ph.D. students.

I undertook a one-year research assignment from October 1998, at the University of Trieste, Italy,

sponsored by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics under Italian Labs Programme.

Public Work in Popularizing Science

As Founder and President of Khwarizmi Science Society, I have the distinction

of heading Pakistan’s most active grass-roots science organizations. The Society

has enabled a paradigm shift of scientific education in select institutions inside

Pakistan, and since 1997, has served thousands of students and members of the

public with the free dissemination of scientific knowledge in the form of seminars,

workshops, exhibitions, panel discussions, informal gathering, conferences and

the Society.
