AIMS OF THE ERNST KLENK FOUNDATION AND GUIDELINES FOR

THE ORGANIZATION OF THE ERNST KLENK CONFERENCES

The Foundation is named in honour of Professor Ernst Klenk, the outstanding German

lipid-biochemist, who headed the former Institut für Physiologische Chemie, now Institut

für Biochemie, Medical Faculty, University of Cologne, between the year 1936 and 1965.

The Aim of the foundation is to stimulate research in biochemistry and medicine by an

annual conference in most progressing fields of modern biochemistry and biology. The

Board of the foundation asks an outstanding scientist to structure the conference on the

selected topic and to invite 15 to 20 scientists, most active in the field, as participants of

the meeting. The participants should not only present their most recent research data but

should, moreover and particular desirable, also discuss their problems involved and ideas

to stimulate future research.

The lectures and discussions will not be recorded and no proceedings will be published.

During the conference, the Ernst Klenk-Lecture is given by an outstanding scientist,

invited by the Kuratorium. The lecture serves as a highlight in the lecture series of the

Medical Society and should give colleagues and students of the University of Cologne

and neighbouring Universities (Bonn, Düsseldorf, Aachen) an opportunity to learn about

frontiers in science. The lecture is published in a peer reviewed international journal. The

Foundation organizes the conference as well as a social programme.
