CHALLENGE:
We were presented with the challenge of creating a multi modal station that could house 5 public and private transportation means. Regional buses, city buses, trolley buses, subway and taxis on a site that already has all access and egress points saturated and constrained. Because of this commuters must circumvent vehicles both private and public, on every inter-modal connection.
On top of the mobility component the station had to include a shopping center, hotel, offices and an entertainment area.
Each one of these components must function independently while being connected between each other. From the mixed used standpoint, the challenge was to create a public space that feels integrated to the local community while giving a sense of order to the intermodal exchange experience.
STRATEGY:
The first approximation we had, to the issue of integrating all uses, came by arranging users in a layered manner so that vehicles and pedestrians could move freely and independently. After this it became apparent that a main public circulation was needed. So, we began to zone everything around a main pedestrian street on an upper level and an internal street on a lower level. By doing so we ended up having a street that was both porous and permeable while retaining controlled access points for each use.
Zoning then came naturally from locating the uses where they were closer to their respective users. And in turn phasing became just a matter of sectioning the complex on the constituent parts that made more sense for the client investment portfolio as the business, community and market evolves in time.
RESULTS/IMPACT:
We firmly believe that the final complex would work as kind of a template for densification on a city that demands efficiency on every major infrastructure.
Every use became an independent constituent part of the hole; functioning independently on one layer of the complex and dependently to the rest on another.
Since the main building blokc of a CETRAM is the mobility hub, it was conceived as the beating heart of the complex and as a first phase to which the remaining blocks had to be joint to.

TRAFFIC STRATEGY
Located at the south of Mexico City’s urbanized areas. CETRAM Tasqueña is a mixed use multi modal station that aims to connect 5 public and private transportation means. Regional buses, city buses, trolley buses, subway and taxis on a site that already has all access and egress points saturated and constrained. Because of this, commuters must circumvent vehicles both private and public, on every intermodal connection.
CETRAM Tasqueña is the third largest inter modal station in the city, connecting the city to neighbouring cities such as Cuernavaca, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Acapulco, etc. As well as becoming an entry point for most of the workforce that each day travells from the Estado de Mexico to Mexico City.
On top of the mobility component the station had to include a shopping center, hotel, offices and an entertainment area. Each one of these components must function independently while being connected between each other. From the mixed used standpoint, the challenge was to create a public space that feels integrated to the local community while giving a sense of order to the intermodal exchange experience.
For this reason the optimal and most obvious solution we found was to take the public transportation to a lower lever in which they can go in and out of the complex without disturbing local transit.
