The German Technical Rules or Biological Agents 250 (Technische Regeln r Biologische Arbeitsstoe,

TRBA 250) relects the state o the art in terms o requirements when working with biological agents inthe areas o technological saety, occupational medicine, inection control and saety, industrialengineering and ergonomics. The rules are speciied by the Committee or Biological Agents (Ausschussr Biologische Arbeitsstoe, ABAS).

Since July 2006, TRBA 250 has included mandatory rules on the use o sae instruments in medicalinterventions where body luids can be transmitted in quantities relevant to potential inection risks.These interventions include, but are not limited to, blood withdrawals and punctures to obtain samples o

other body fuids. A transition period to allow or the deployment o sae instrument ended in August 2007.

In February 2008, the TRBA 250 rules or employers were urther tightened to aord even better protectionrom puncture injury. The use o so-called saety products is now mandatory in all activities where bloodcan be transerred in inection-relevant quantities. Conventional instruments may only continue to beused i a risk assessment is made with the participation o the company physician and an expert onoccupational saety to the eect that the risk o inection is negligible. The result o this assessment mustbe properly documented.

Employers disregarding the requirements o TRBA 250 are subject to sanctions under the penal code andcivil liability law as well as occupational health and saety law. TRBA 250 deines the rules that inormthe actions o the German employers liability insurance associations (Berusgenossenschaten). As TRBA250 is an integral part o the autonomous law governing accident insurance companies, employers maybe held liable i they are ound to have violated provisions o TRBA 250.

The Pro-Mag Ultra and Pro-Mag Ultra ST automatic biopsy instruments are used to obtain high-quality

biopsies such as histological prostate, kidney, liver, lung and breast biopsies.
