United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Chapter 797 describes the guidelines, procedures and compliance requirements for compounding sterile preparations and sets the standards that apply to all settings in which sterile preparations are compounded to prevent overall risk of contamination and errors. These measures address training, product quality, microbial testing and environmental conditions.

What is usP 797?

Anyone who compounds sterile preparations should be USP Chapter 797 compliant. These compounding standards are being adopted by many state boards of pharmacy however, not all states require or enforce 797 compliance.
